My DD started at 7yo and she was the youngest that her drum teacher has ever taught.

However if you can find a drum teacher willing to teach him and your DS is keen then I'm sure it could work. I've seen a Youtube viseo of some 4yo playing the drums really well. Only problem is at 5yo there is no way he'll fit on a full size drum kit so you'll have to find a teacher with a junior size kit or buy your own and have lessons in your home.

DD is 9 now and has only recently fitted on a full size acoustic kit, we got her on a full size electric kit with some adjustments when she was 7, but she found the bass pedal really hard/difficult to operate.
