Ballet Clothes sizing?

Trying to get ahead of the game a bit - both dds starting a new ballet school in september - already done a couple of trial lessons so all good. The school is much more strict on uniform than old school so I thought I'd look on ebay for cheap 2nd hand but I am getting v. confused on sizing.
RAD stuff needed for a skinny 4 yr old who normally wears size 5 in normal clothes and also for an average sized 2 yr old. Whats the deal with all these 00, 0, 1 sizing??
TIA

Age 5 is a 0. If you go onto dancegear dirct im sure there is a sizing guide. They are also very good prices for socks, tights etc.

The leotards we use size by age, so I can't help there. Our practice skirts seem to be one size fits all.

However, practice slippers - we have always been told to have 2 sizes larger than the shoe size (this by several shoe shops). You might have to sew the elastic in though, which is a bit of pain, but worth it.

Agree about ballet shoes - they do come up tiny - dd takes a 4.5 but her ballet shoes are about a 7! Most shoes now have 1 side of the elastic attached now and you have to fold back down and attach on other side. Oh and tie the lace in a bow and tuck in - laces out drives RAD teachers mad!

With hair - invest in bun nets and pins; it will save you so much stress!

Thanks for the advice!
Old class was any old leotard and ballet shoes - this one has a proper uniform (dd1 is in her estatic cos its pink ) I don't think they're very strict though.

So ballet shoes I've got the hang of - both have v. narrow feet so rely on elastic to keep them in place

Hair - well neither are long enough for buns yet so a simple ponytail and hair clips will have to do .

I think I'm just going to take the plunge and get some off ebay and its wrong size I can just resell it on..
