Watch to measure distance?

Is there such a thing?
I've started in a running club - on a track so far but am noticing a slight improvement every week. I'm camping in France soon for the summer and would like to try and continue the running over there (early bird) but would like to measure the distance I'm covering.

Is there such a device? I don't want to spend too much.

In short, yes.

You can use a running app on a smart phone if you have one. Runkeeper, map my run etc. All free or v cheap.

If you want a watch rather than a phone you need a GPS watch. Something like the Garmin Forerunner 10 is towards the lower end of the price scale....they start at £70 on Amazon but probably cheaper on Ebay.

It tells you distance/time/pace at the time, then you can connect to your computer after for more details of time/pace splits, route maps etc.

As pootlebug says.

For ages, I used mapmyrun.com to measure distance. But it was a pain having to take a phone out with me.

So, I bought a Garmin and I love it. It is so motivating to see your distance, time and pace getting better over time, all listed in one place. I don't need it but I love using it...

I've got the Forerunner 10, and it has been brilliant. DH uses his phone and MapMyRide for cycling, but it does randomly lose itself at times

Sorry for not replying sooner.

This is great info - thank you.
I have used my phone before and I don't like the hassle of strapping it and worrying about it coming free etc.
I'll start looking for a watch now.

Thanks again Thanks
