Obese c25k or cycling?

For someone who needs to lose 5 stone and historically has bad ligaments in both knees, is cycling better than c25k or both good or something else altogether? Thanks for any advice.

If you have bad knees then running probably isn't a great idea, especially with quite a bit of weight to lose. Cycling would be a good way to get some exercise, along with swimming and maybe a bit of yoga to strengthen and tone your muscles without the high impact of running.

C25K is great, but I'm sure I'd have got on better with it if I'd lost a bit of weight first.

I still carry a few extra stone but have noticed how much easier running can be once you shed a stone or two. You could try power walking first, I find that is good exercise and again, not so hard on the joints as running.

Well done for getting out there, whatever you choose to do. It's so hard to get motivated (I have already failed on day 1 of my diet today! But on the plus side, did manage a run this morning) I will walk tomorrow and do some other workout later in the week so I'm not putting too much strain on my joints. Doing anything is better than not, and once your metabolism speeds up a bit, combining this with a bit of a healthier diet should help.

Cycling would be great. My dh has really, really bad knees (needs one replacing, and the other is nearly that bad and has snapped ligaments), but since christmas has gone from 10 mins being a struggle to cycling 100 miles a week, and is doing 17mph on the bike.
He's lost 4 stone in that time doing 4:3 too

Cycling is my weapon of choice. Running/jogging just too brutal on the knees - I did Couch Potato - 5K and then jogged three times a week. But then my knees went. Now I have two bikes (a Cannondale and Pashley) and find that much easier on the knees and also, if I'm honest, a lot more fun than jogging. Also, I can do useful things ike go places/get shopping/spend time with the kids...
