I want to get strong and slim for pole!

I have recently started pole fit,I love it and it makes me feel like I need to be strong and slimmer in order to keep improving.

My pole teacher advised one body pump class and one pole class per week.

I am considering fasting and only eating 2-10 what do you think?

I hate no carbs, but I am thinking I might have carbs at only one meal per day.

Any other tips? Grin

That's quite a few questions!

  1. Body pump is a great class, it will definitely improve your muscles.
  2. Building muscles and strength needs proper nutrition, especially protein.
  3. "No carbs" is just about impossible, and a restriction like "only once a day" is probably unrealistic. Better to use something like MyFitnessPal to measure your total intake of carbs throughout the day.
  4. Carbs are a useful energy source - you may find you can't work out as well if you restrict them too much.
  5. Fasting is a different ball game - what's your rationale for bringing an eating window into this?

Pole will get you stronger anyway, it's a brilliant sport for building strength, great for core and abs and generally brilliant for everything.

Pole will build up your strength far more than body pump but if you like pump (I love it) then go for it.

Fasting will not help you feel strong, it will have the reverse. Just have a balanced diet, make sure you get enough protein.

Melanie - thank you for the response, I thought of using an eating window to loose weight, not really to help with training etc.

I did 5:2 previously and lost nearly 1 stone but have since stopped and put all the weight back on Hmm

Betty - so I'm guessing you also do pole? I love it Grin the busy pump was recommended by my pole teacher to help me gain more strength as I will only be doing pole once per week.

I agree fasting will not help me feel stronger, I find that I eat a lot of junk and find it hard to stop at times. Also I don't eat a lot of meat, I should start having more tofu etc I think instead.

Yep I do pole and also instruct it a well. It's a brilliant sport, always loads to learn. Don't forget pole is working with your body weight so going to be far more effective than pump.

Oh wow I would love to teach it eventually Grin my teacher said I am picking it up very quickly but I have had 1-2-1 classes and will now be joining the group.

How long did you learn for before teaching? Did you do a pole teaching course or are you self taught?

Well,I'm a qualified aerobic and fitness instructor so it was always on the cards.,,I've been poling for just over five years and been teaching regularly for a few months although I did cover lessons for her before hand. I get instructor training from my teacher every week. I love 121's, I have one a week plus go to a group class every week as well.

What stuff are you working on at the moment?

Oh I see so you must be very fit and I'm shape already. I've never been into sports, I only do what I have to do to keep in shape, although at the moment I am more over weight than I have ever been Shock but I find pole very addictive and every move a new achievement.

Well I have only had one taster session and two proper lessons, I did pole over a year ago with a different teacher and only learnt various different spins and it was more about looking sexy.

My new teacher is amazing, so far I have done climbing, sitting, upside down crufix, planking, a few other things I can't remember the name of and I think a number four?

Even though I have only had a few lessons my teacher said I havnt learnt quickly and I will be able to skip beginners and go straight to improves.

That's why I want to be as strong as possible and get slimmer, I think it will be easier if I am both stronger and slimmer. Right now I am about 1.5 stones over weight Hmm but I'm not prepared to let it put me off Wink

Well to be fair if you are climbing and inverting after only two proper lessons you are really good, it can take some people a good while to do that - when I was learning it took me ages to be able to invert.

Good luck with it and most importantly enjoy it :)
