Aha, new home! No running or bootcamp for me at the moment. I'm either brewing a bug, or totally doped on antihistamines (non-drowsy, but I'm having to overlap every 12 hours. I ache all over and can barely drag myself around. Sometimes I hate summer!)

Hello ! I've been sent here from my c25k thread after having a bit of a wobble (w3d3) and wondering if I could complete it.
I've had some brilliant support and told if I'm running, I'm a runner - so I'm here joining a thread about running

< never thought I'd see the day ! >

Ooh there you all are [waves]. Welcome Duchess!

Morrigu that's absolutely fantastic! I'd be chuffed to little mint balls with that. I'd be snogging passersby, never mind high-fiving them Blush.

Welcome duchess and tess, we are all runners here, no matter what our achievements we celebrate them all.

On Sunday and yesterday I did 9k in total or thereabouts 1531.16.

Yesterday's run wasn't the greatest but still better than nothing.

Thanks for the new thread Sirzy :)

My next run is probably Friday. I am now officially aiming to build up to 10k (only up to 6k at the moment) with a deadline of the week of early September - it's my personal fitness challenge goal for my next Tae Kwon Do belt, which means I have to do it if I want my green belt. Just got my orange belt last week!

Hello all! Can't believe we are on Thread 6....

Welcome duchess and well done on getting so far with C25K. One third of the way through!

I did a very slow, hot & painful 4km yesterday. Today is a rest day and tomorrow I will try again.

I have just entered the Cabbage Patch 10miler in October and am looking at a 10k race in Richmond Park next month. I do find that the races can be quite expensive and the fees add up! Anyone else find that?

briteside - can you do some park runs instead? Only 5k but they are free and have a great atmosphere, as well as giving you accurate timings and your rank for a woman your age among all park runners nationally. It's really well run.

Hi Duchess I know how you feel. I started running in October after 49 years of never running, so still don't feel like a runner, even though I love it and run 3-5 times a week 3-6k each time. Currently training for an 8k (5 mile) race locally. In October last year I was struggling to do C25K. Stick at it.

Runners - can you help with two questions please?

I am stocky anyway and my calves are getting even stockier from running. Any way to avoid this?

Also, I'm quite heavy on my feet. I can get round this by running with a very short stride but if I ever try to lengthen it, even a little, I get heavy again. Any advice on how to run more lightly on my feet? Thanks.

Hello! Can I come and join in too? Have been lurking for a few days.

Am currently polishing off the last week of c25k after restarting running after birth of DC3, and have been talked into signing up for a half marathon in mid October Shock. I used to run 5-8k 5 days a week before getting pregnant, but didn't run once from conception until starting c25k when DD was 6 weeks old, so am a little rusty! Currently finding it frustrating being so far off my 'normal' pace, averaging around 10mins 40 a mile instead of previous 9 mins or so. Keep giving into the temptation to push myself, and regretting it when I'm stupidly stiff the next day.

Hi Hopefully!

I think it's inevitable threedeer, runners calf! I lost 5 1/2st during the start of my running journey and although my calves are smaller not as proportionally smaller. It might be worth seeing a physio or seeing if gait analysis can give a shoe that helps your heaviness.

I've never done more than one a month briteside but tend to do races around £12-14, Norwich hm is the most expensive one I've entered and that was £26 I think. The colour runs are pricey as are obstacle ones but I think if you go for lower key races they're cheaper :)

Threedeer I've found I'm much lighter on my feet since changing to a flatter shoe, so a smaller drop from heel to toe - mine are Skechers Go Meb Speed 2s (terrible name!) and only have a 4mm drop. They are quite minimalist compared to what I was used to, but I love them after a few runs to get used to them. I had Saucony ones before, with lots of cushioning, and the sales assistant noticed that in them (and any other heavily cushioned shoes) I am a heavy footed heel striker, but barefoot I am a mid/forefoot striker and much lighter on my feet.

Hi to all the runners!
I currently run 5k 3 times a week - I'm pretty slow, 34-36 minutes, but I'm not that bothered, I'm only doing it for me.

I'm working towards running 8k as a long run on a Saturday, would like to get there by the end of the summer. I'm adding about 5 minutes to my run every week - it's tough but I'm pretty sure I can do it.

Running makes absolutely everything better. It feels like a new skill I have learned which I will use forever. Yay for running!
