So, when did you first call yourself a runner?? (lighthearted)

Having recently graduated from c25k, and now using Hal Higdon to get to 10k, I've suddenly realised that I just might be a runner!

But what brought me to this conclusion? The dog and I have had a few milestones, in no particular order......

The first time I dared to run in daylight.
The first time I left the house clad in Lycra but without a HUGE tshirt.
The first Park run.
The time I ran past the high school at 3pm, just as they were all coming out. And I didn't care.
The first time it seemed easy. The 5km PB.

And lastly, tonight, when I finally managed to overtake the dog!!!!

So, when did you first realise that you just might be a runner?

I guess when I started running regularly and going slightly further distances. And when I was able to run for a decent amount of time (15+ minutes) without stopping.

I am a truly crap runner though - slow and with no technique. But I do my stretches and put on my sports bra and get out there! And it really does make everything in life that little bit better Smile

Hi Lottapianos! I'd forgotten the acquisition of the first sports bra!

Weird isn't it how running effects your mental health too.

Ha ha those were all my milestones too!! Except the dog! Swap the dog for a teenager.... Yes, mum is fitter than her teen. It's official!

For me also was joining a running club
Buying 'runners world'
And buying and wearing a running cap

I think it must be when I started packing my trainers when we go on holiday as I couldn't face NOT running for a week!

Ah ha! Just the people I was looking for...

Popping over from a C25k thread where we are mostly on week 4 or below. Could those of you that have done the programme beyond this point help with week 5 please? W5r3 is 20 mins running no breaks. This is a big jump from previous days. Even more confusing is that it then goes down again to shorter runs and walking breaks during week 6. Be great to hear if anyone knows why as well as whether that 20 min run was a stumbling block for you or not!

Thanks and sorry to gatecrash your thread. Hoping it won't to too long before I can return as legitimate "runner"!!

My dear departed mum used to say she knew she was a real runner the first time she got bleeding nipples from chafing Grin

So lovely to see a few more people have found this thread!

Hi Tinasurrey, the Big Run in week five continues to be a mystery to all of us c25k graduates. I remember setting off on that run, thinking to myself that there was no way I could possibly do it and what on earth were they thinking, and then ringing my husband while I walked a cool down to say "you'll never guess what I just did" For some reason, unknown to me, it does work. It's worked for so many of us that it can't be a fluke. Trust the programme and thou shalt get fit.

Now I'm using Hal Higdon to get me to 10km and it all seemed good.

However tonight I have to...sob,sob...report my latest runners milestone and admit that I seem to have a slight injury. I'd just packed my trainers to take on holiday for a week too and was sooo enjoying my running. I have an appt with the physio tomorrow so I'm hoping he will magically fix my sore leg. Sob, sob.

Major congrats to all the c25k graduates. We're runners!!
