New runner, a bit giddy with how well it's going.

I started a beginners running course 4 weeks ago. The first couple of weeks I just went along once a week but didn't do anything else. We started running 30secs, walking 60, then went up to running 1min walking 1 min. Last Monday I went out for my first solo run, and did 1.3 miles, walking 1 running 1. I found it hard but just about manageable. I went out 3 more times, doing the same, and it gradually got easier. On Monday this week I thought I'd see how I got on running, and walk if I needed to. My route is uphill out and down back, and I walked for about 1 min and ran the rest. Yesterday I ran all the way, and felt great when I got back so added on another 1/2 mile loop. Tonight I ran 2 miles without stopping. I'm shocked by how much I'm enjoying it and improving. I have never really exercised before, I smoke and drink too much and thought I was hideously unfit. If anyone else is thinking about starting running but a but scared, seriously, just do it! Take it slowly and you may surprise yourself! I'm hoping to do a 5k park run by the end of the month.
