This isn't a new story, but it always shocks me when i think about it - there is an island of plastic in the Pacific Ocean. How long can we carry on doing this? sad

I'm not completely ignorant on these issues....but I must admit I didn't know about this. It's really bad, isn't it sad....it will be one of those things that will bite us in the butt big time in the future.....sigh

it's amazing that plastic is still being manufactured to such an extent, like macdonalds happy meal toys, just throwaway tat

maybe plastic should be disllowed completely...or is the government winning by allowing it....which would mean it would always be allowed, sigh...why do they get it so wrong....doing the right thing should be cheap,, doing the wrong thing should be unaffordably expensive

I was in Turkey/Greece on holiday recently - those countries don't seem to have a ban on plastic bags as we're used to now in the UK and Ireland. I was quite shocked when silly little things were put into bags when I had a perfectly good bag with me already - they even put a 'leather' handbag into a plastic carrier bag for heaven's sake. I came home with dozens of bags rammed into my case - I'll use them for bin liners.
