I have a question and I would like another person's opinion...
For a long time I have been paying an extortionate amount of money for electricity from Good Energy (all wind power). Due to credit crunch etc I decided to switch to a 'green' Scottish Power supply - this will save me about £150 a year. However, I then heard on the radio that the government has pledged that by 20xx (can't remember exact year) 15% of its power supplies will be from green sources. So, am I right in thinking that it won't make any difference which tariff I choose - I may as well save £300 and go for the cheapest option - because energy providers will have increase their green sources in order to comply with the government targets anyway.

have you tried ethical energy rather than green?
ebico is a good not for profit ethical company and is often the cheapest anyway. I have used them for 3 years now and have never had a complaint about them.
have a look and see what you think.

I'm with Good Energy and only pay £250 a year - that's for a family of four in a three bed, two reception house so I don't think they're that expensive. Are you sure you will actually save all that?

good energy is very expensive imho, varies from place to place too, so might be cheaper depending where you live, our bills are always about £100 except the dreaded winter bill which was £300+ (we have one electric storage heater, one oil heater and a wood burner stove), small 3 bed cottage... with a solar panel for heating the water....

off to look at switching good energy has been annoying me with their excuses for the price increases.

ebico are dearer for me than good energy... might go and look at hydro electric next

They've only made excuses for price increases because people think 100% renewable energy shouldn't be going up, but in actual fact it's controlled by the markets like everyone else's electricity. It's still the only 100% renewable supplier and that's got to be worth something.

ballbaby it is worth something but my bill will be up to £300 + cheaper elsewhere, I do a lot of stuff for environmental reasons but I am barely heating my house (no heating in kitchen, living room, hall, my bedroom or bathroom) and with good energy I am paying over £1200 a year... it is ridiculous!

I simply cannot afford to pay for good energy... all my electricity will come from scottish hydro electric which isn't as bad as some energy suppliers.
