That's it really, what do you use to wash your mooncup with?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By Habbibu on Wed 04-Jun-08 20:36:44
my hands and some water, mostly. And sometimes some mild soap.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By FrannyandZucchini on Wed 04-Jun-08 20:38:58
soap and water

Very hot water. I don't really use soap (should I?)
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By FrannyandZucchini on Wed 04-Jun-08 20:46:21
I don't think you are probably meant to use soap
I do because it feels Wrong otherwise
like washing your hands without soap

Hmm, I've resisted using soap up till now, I don't know why. But just wanted reassurance than I am not a major skank if I don't.

Maybe I will just use hot water while actively using it but soap before I put it away.

I give it a wash with some antibacterial soap and then sterilise it in the microwave for 5 mins

I don't use soap - I'd be worried about it causing some nasty reaction or insensitivity issues. I just wash with warm/hot water and my hands.

I need to sterilse more often probably though. How do I sterilse in a microwave?

Generally just hot water, maybe wash with a bit of soap when I am finished with it for the month. Then sterilise in a pan of boiling water before I put it away (if I remember) but definitely before I use it again.

Yes, Hulababy that's what I was worried about too. That and blowing soapy bubbles from my foof. wink

Bumper do sterilise it in between cycles
I think other than that hot water is fine

I've discovered that those tiny interdental brushes (TePe) are great for cleaning the little holes out!
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By OhYouBadBadKitten on Wed 04-Jun-08 21:19:01
Heated - how do you do it in the microwave. I do mine in an old saucepan on the cooker and get very blush if any of the family walk in and see it.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By hairtwiddler on Wed 04-Jun-08 21:25:37
Hot water, sometimes a bit of handwash (ecover washing up liquid in my house!). Between cycles, use a baby toothbrush (clearly labelled for that use!) and sterilise using 1/4 milton tablet.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By BumperliciousNeedsToSleep on Wed 04-Jun-08 21:27:02
Oh, yes, I do sterilise it before I use it. Fortunately I still have my LO's steam steriliser.

Ohyoubadkitten, I put the mc in a glass bowl with cold water and in the microwave for 10 minutes, or 5-6 minutes if I happen to have boiled a kettle and have hot water handy & then just leave it to cool.

Good idea re the toothbrush/interdental brush.

Am loving "baby toothbrush (clearly labelled for that use!)" Does it have a wee label with 'Moonbrush' on it - maybe you could market that grin

I tend to mainly use warmish water and hands, maybe a bit of antibacterial handwash. Hot water and antibacterial handwash before putting it away for the month. Have boiled it up a couple of times, much to DH's wonderment...

Just hot water.

Boil it for five minutes in between cycles.

Once set it alight that way. <Pride>

<conisders becoming ebay seller and making a fortune on the 'moonbrush'>
By the way, the new one on the market is called the 'femmecup'. Not sure if that's any better.

Is it sterilised enough if I put it in a glass jar of hot boiled kettle water until it cools or will I need to put it in the microwave for a few more minutes?

rofl at bella 'setting it alight'. You've seen my M o n k e y b i r d's now defunct blog on the art of pan burning, surely?

I invite you to join my esteemed colleagues in the art of Burning Dry...

Anyhoo, please tell me all you skankers use a bit of soap on the old fanjo once in a while? So what's with antisoap on the fannyjammer?
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By solo on Sat 07-Jun-08 16:56:28
Soap far too harsh for fanjo use, causes thrush for one thing! Aqueous Cream user here...
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By jamila169 on Sat 07-Jun-08 17:01:27
god no, anything on the old fanjo is a one way ticket to cystitis or thrush hell. BTW at the end of the cycle I give my mooncup a good scrub in hot water, then dishwasher it - that's not scuzzy is it?
Contact the poster See this person's profile Contact mumsnet about this post By BibiThree on Sat 07-Jun-08 17:01:55
I use femfresh "intimate wash" for fanjo and washing mooncup. Wouldn't feel right using nothing. Sterilise in some boiling water every month. Just rinse the mc out in between and give a good wash wash once a day during my period.

Have just invested in a toothbrush for mooncup - obviously keep separate from other toothbrushes grin

I asked this question on Mooncups website - Milton is fine they say.
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By nannyL on Sat 22-Nov-08 18:41:33
i rinse it with my hands and hot water

i sterilise it once (or twice0 a month with milton solution

my friend only ever uss hot water to wash itand never sterilises it and is fine
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By colander on Sat 22-Nov-08 18:55:16
rinse it in cold water, and then sterilise it by boiling in a saucepan at the end of each month. Or frantically at the beginning if I forgot at the end of the last month blush. Am feeling a bit of a scuzz after reading some of these posts.
