selling a charity shop item

my dh bought me an Item from a charity shop which unfortunately doesn't fit me, it was bought in good faith

however it appears that the item is a brand and not worn from what I can tell so worth a lot more than what we paid (think 20 to 30 pounds)

would it be unethical to sell it?
should I donate some of the money we make in profit to charity ( I was thinking 10% of selling price)

The charity shop may not be the best place to realise the optimum price for the item.

If it were me and I had time on my hands, I'd try to re-sell it....

a) to recoup dh's money and spend it on something that fits
b) to try and make a surplus to split with the charity in question although to be fair any charity would do wouldn't it ?

If it were me I'd go 50/50 on any surplus

It's yours so you can do what you want with it. If it makes you feel good, donate some of your profit to the charity.

I would sell it and donate some of the profits. The charity had the option to sell it at a higher price, but didn't so I shouldn't worry too much. Many charity shops are clued up nowadays, and sell good quality stuff on Ebay.

Some people make their living reselling stuff from charity shops, I wouldn't feel guilty if I were you.

Just sell it. But if you have things to donate then try and take them to that charity shop. Or donate a bit of the profit you make. If you hadn't bought it somebody else would have. No need to feel guilty.

The charity shop sold it for what they believed was a fair price.. It is now yours to do what you want with. I would have no qualms about selling it.

The fact that you are asking the question seems to mean that you are uneasy about just pocketing any 'profit' you might make so do what makes you feel ok about yourself. You have to live with yourself - no one else. You'll have to put effort into selling so you could argue you need recompense for that - unless you are really hard up, FWIW, I'd do 50/50. DH sounds nice - and obviously recognises quality!
