tempted to eat meat

not sure what topic this goes under

I've been a veggie for around 7 years and family/friends etc have accommodated me very kindly

recently I've been tempted to eat meat , really junky stuff like savaloy or fried chicken. however if I did I would feel I had lied to everyone who has made allowances for me, or I would have to hide it like a guilty secret

there is no indication I will like the taste of meat again, I gave it up because it tastes gross, so why now the craving to eat some?

Hmm. I can't answer this for you, but by the time I was pregnant with my first baby, I'd been a vegetarian for 3 years. Then I went to a barbecue, everyone was eating meat, and I just had a bit of lettuce on my plate. I ate some lamb. Felt really bad, and kept making excuses for it, but now I'm back to how I was before and will buy, cook and eat all kinds of meat. Tbh, most people were glad as it was now 1000 times easier to "accommodate" me, if that makes sense?

It's your body, anyway :)

maybe it is the salt? I've stopped eating crisps etc and I've lost the salt grinder so maybe that's it?

I am a lifelong pescetarian, and find that on a fairly regular basis I crave oily fish or eggs. I think it's the body's way of telling me I need more protein at that time. So look at what you're not getting enough of - is it the meat itself, or is it the fat, or the salt, or some other aspect?

Maybe you need saturated fat? The only decent non animal source would be coconut oil. Is your iron ok if you are after meat? I've managed to be anaemic despite eating meat daily and anaemia causes all sorts of cravings (in my case rubber and wood lol)

As with any decision, it's fine to change your mind. People do change their minds about stuff. (THe only two mostly-irrevocable decisions are choosing to give birth and choosing to kill yourself).

Too be honest I could not care less if someone eats meat or not - my sister was a vegetarian who ate chicken and fish (yes I do not know this is not possible!!) but she goes through more changes than batman - we just work with her latest - I can't say I would think twice unless (not saying you are this or not) you are one of those veges that bleat like a lamb when people eat meat start bawling their eyes out when a burger is put on a BBQ then why would it matter - your choice!

My sister stopped eating meat as she didn't like the taste. She has now started to try everything and is discovering some great new things, some are fish, some are meat.

No one will mind that your taste buds have changed, in fact everyone's do. I will try foods I've previously not liked every 3-5 years and sometimes I like them now.

Go get tasting. Start with a nibble from you partner or friends plate so you don't waste a whole dish of food. Be adventurous - kangaroo is great - a cross between beef and duck! Maybe a bit much but duck is yummy, either crispy from the Chinese or a breast of duck cooked perfectly pink in a restaurant.

I was only talking to my sisters friend who is a longer term veggie about this last month.

Great meat and fish/seafood to try
Duck as above
Hand carved dry cured Wiltshire ham
Dry aged beef cooked medium rare, sirloin is best as the fat adds to the flavour.
King prawns dipped in garlic mayo
Really good fish and chips
Roasted halibut on a pea and shrimp risotto
Handmade whole breast chicken Kiev
Lamb chops with crispy fat, served pink with mint sauce, gravy and creamy mash
Cottage pie, keep it pure, steak mince and onions in gravy with great mash on top nice and crispy under the grill.
Local butchers best sausages nice 90% meat content plus herbs etc no crap
Homemade carbonara with lardons.

Are you eating enough protein and salt? Try to do so.
If you are vegetarian for ethical reasons then why would just craving the taste of meat make you what to stop being vegetarian?
I know that eating meat is morally wrong. Therefore I'd try and curb cravings using things that aren't meat. You don't need meat to be healthy and satisfied. Just make sure you are eating the right things.
I think it's unhelpful of the previous poster just to name meat dishes as this is an ethical issue. We are beings with choice don't just have to act on base instincts.

I suggested them as she said she stopped eating meat as she didn't like the taste. I thought if she was going to decide to eat it again I'd suggest quality over junk for health reasons.

As a side I would also suggest eating ethically raised meat.

I'd never have made suggestions if she'd given up due to feeling it was wrong to eat meat. I respect anyone's choice to not eat meat or any other life choice they made. Sorry if I offended you.

Maybe you could try some gravy? That should give you the flavour and so an indication of whether it repulses you still or not.

Don't worry about telling people until you know.

My bro was teetotal from age 17. Every 10 years or so he'd have a sip of someone's wine to see if his tastes had changed. No one minded (though obviously we didn't really have to make any adjustments ourselves to accommodate him).
