Fixed term contract now sessional - any advice please.........

Can anyone give me any advice regarding work currently under a fixed term contract now being offered to continue on a sessional basis by the same employer? Do I have any rights if it is fundamentally the same job I will be doing?

The office is also relocating and I will be further out of pocket in terms of childcare and travel costs/time which won't be covered by the higher level sessional rate that is being offered. I love my job and appreciate the organisation is having some difficulty, but I do feel a tad . Grateful for any thoughts or suggestions where I might find some advice.

Is your fixed term contract coming to an end? Because if so, as far as I am aware, the company do not have any obligations to offer you further work on the same basis.

If it is not due to finish, then they are virtually giving you notice. (I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE ELSE TO GIVE THEIR OPINION ON THIS BEFORE YOU TAKE IT AS CORRECT!!!) or they are trying to change the terms of your contract. either way, contract law comes into rather than employment law IYSWIM.

As for the rate, you could choose to negotiate for further recompense for the extra costs.

There's all sorts of law about fixed term contracts which might be behind them trying to wriggle out of renewing it. I'm not an expert but currently on a ftc myself and so have been researching it a bit. Basically I think if you have been on repeatedly renewed ftcs for 4 years, you are deemed to be permanently employed. I think they could get into trouble if they effectively keep you on but try to duck out of giving you a contract, but I'd have a look at the govt website about all this if I were you - don't have the address to hand but I'm sure you can find it if you google it.
