ARGH!!! I can't believe my company - witholding payslips

In January I returned from Mat leave. At the end of the month I went to get some money out of my bank on payday to find nothing in my account. I rang HR who told me I'd have to wait til monday when someone would get back to me. I waited for a phone call on monday, no one bothered ringing me so I rang in. After a lot of buck passing and being told it was an error with my bank, someone finally bothered to look at my payslip and told me the company was trying to clawback all of my maternity pay. They would ring head office and get back to me. No one got back to me. I rang head office at 4.50pm and got it sorted out, apparently it was a 'system error', and my pay would be in my account the next day. It was.
BUT, I never received an amended payslip. I need the payslip showing the correct pay in order to claim maternity allowance from the govt (I'm pg again!), they will only accept originals. My company will not give me an original. The pillock in head office was really rude and refused to do anything to help me. It's not like I've lost the original payslip and need another, the only payslip I have for the month shows me nearly £3000 in debit to the company. I need to send in my best payslips in order to claim as much mat allowance as possible. The difference will not amount to hundreds of pounds.
I've no idea what to do next, I'm thinking about complaining but I'm so stressed out I can't think straight, and I'm not sure it would make any difference anyway... I hate my job!!

This is terrible. I would go back to HR. They work for management but they are meant to be looking after workers and certainly managing mat leave is part of their job. They should ring head office on your behalf etc. Can you go direct to the Head of your HR?
I was also not paid on return from mat leave and they implied I should have told them, but of course I had agreed it all and return date when I went on leave and it was my dept at fault. If Head of HR is obstructive, then are you in a union?
Good luck

hi nonanny, just got off the phone from HR, turns out it's not just payroll who make a habit of being awkward... I explained I need an original, they told me they can't provide it, all they can provide is the copy I received in the post. Apparently I am to send this photocopy that will not be accepted to the benefits office with a note attached explaining the 'system error' and with their contact details. I said I thought this was unacceptable to me and the benefits office and was told to go back to my local HR department and deal with them. I pointed out my local HR can't even be bothered to sort out this latest mess so they're hardly going to be interested! Unfortunately there is no union that I'm aware of, although I don't think a union would make much headway either, I have had my opinion reinforced that this lot are a bunch of buckpassers who don't give 2 *** how they treat their staff!

just been trawling the net to figure out whether I'm entitled to a payslip, think I am www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/Pay/DG_10027228
so have just sent in a complaint to the maternity department, not that I expect much will happen, mind...

granted you never received the original computer generated payslip. Your company should be able to write a letter to the government department concerned on their letterhead to tell them what your income is. HR should be able to do it. It is what companies do when you apply for mortgages etc.

Check whether the government department will accept that instead of a payslip.

I gave up and put in a complaint yesterday and a signed dated copy payslip turned up this morning, so I'm hoping it will be accepted...

Hi redclover.

The Job Centre accepted copies of my payslips when applying for MA so you should be ok. Just explain to whoever you have to see what has happened.
