Dh is looking for another job and was wondering what start date he can tell prospective employers. He is off til end of March on sick. He has to give one weeks notice. Also is he still entitled to 3-4 days annual leave that he has left for this financial year. Could he use them for his notice period.

Yes you can, and yes you can use you holiday entitlement as part of the notice period.

he has no contract at all, forgot to mention, I assume he would have to go back for one-two days or boss may just let him off with that

He can give notice while on sick leave yes, and could use some holiday during that time if his employer is happy for him to do so. Even if he didn't take it he would have to be paid it as part of his final salary payment anyway so it makes little difference either way.

If he's signed off sick until the end of March probably best thing to do is hand in his notice 1 week before his signed-off period ends, then there's no reason he'll have to go back.
