what qualities will you bring to the job

why XXXXX company

there will likely be a scenario question "if you were balh blah blha nad someone blah blha blah..."

and have something to say when they ask if you have any questions.

Driving regs. Company background. What he would bring to the job/why he would be good at it. How would he handle emergency situations. Make sure he knows his CV inside out.

'What are your strengths and weaknesses?' is a classic.

'Tell me about a time when you dealt with a difficult customer/client'
'What would you do in X scenario'
'What challenges do you envisage in the role. How would you overcome them'
'Tell me about an achievement/success/something you're really proud of'
'What do you think makes a successful driving instructor'
'How do you keep up with developments/changes in the law'
And have some really good questions ready!

what sort of questions have you asked at interview.

It is a bit of an awkward one to sound as though he is not desperate to leave the job he is in. However he is very enthuiastic about this job and really wants it as is good career progression

Dont know much about the driving instructor business but he could ask some questions about 'why the vacancy has occured' or 'any growth/expansion plans'. If career progression is his aim, then he should ask what opportunities are there to develop further... Its good that he doesn't hate his job - I do a lot of interviews and I hate when people criticise their current job.

Whatever he does, he shouldn't say 'no I dont have any other questions, I think you've answered everything already'.

he does hate his job he is in at mo, but would have applied for this job even if he did like it. Bit worried about ref from his present employer, won't be good.

Always answer questions giving examples of how he's dealt with a similar situation in the past - past behaviour is the best indicator of future behaviour so an example of how good he has already been in a tricky situation is better than a hypothetical guess of what he would do.

If asked for weaknesses, say something that he used to find difficult/need further development in, that he identified himself, and did something about. That way he is showing that he has good self-awareness, and takes responsibility in a proactive way for his own performance, and the 'weakness' he's mentioned no longer exists as well.
