Self employed - proof of earnings for Maternity Allowance

I run a small pet sitting business and am paying my NI and am planning on claiming MA when I have my MATB1 form in hand. However on the PDF of how to do this it says I have to provide payslips. I don't give myself payslips! I keep a track of how much money I earn in a spreadsheet and that's it. I usually get paid in cash too.

Anyone know what I am supposed to do? Or anyone been in a similar situation and managed to get MA?

Thanks xxx

i claimed MA when working as a childminder. you have to have an income of more than £30 a week for the lower rate or £100 a week for the higher rate. you just need to fill in a form stating which weeks you are using/how much you earnt. i didn't have payslips obviously, i did have accounts to back up my claim but they never actually asked to see them!

Presumably you keep track of how much you earn in a spread sheet for the tax man. This should be satisfactory. Fill out all the necessary forms., sing the figures from your spread sheet. I last did this 4 years ago, but I presume it should still be the same. It's very unlikely anyone will actually come and take a look at your fugures, but obviously the need to be in order, just incase.

You don't need payslips. In fact I wasn't asked to prove anything much. Not sure I even had to state any income details!

Hi everyone thanks!! I had a brainwave that I could easily make up the payslips with my company logo. I have a spreadsheet which has all my earnings entered for tax reasons. so that'll obviously help. It's early days, will have to wait for a while but like to be organised. Thanks everyone.

You don't need to prove your income, or have earnt a certain amount of money to get maternity allowance if you are self employed. You just need to be up to date with your national insurance payments and have been paying them for the required amount of time.

I have been self employed for the past year and started getting my Maternity allowance in January, was straight forward to get it.

i think beautiful days speaks the truth. You really don't need to create payslips!
