Going back to work. How do I apply to work less hours?

Im due back at work at the end of April. I was a restarant Manager however I dont want to commit to that type of job anymore. I feel it would be to much time away from my daughter I just want to work about 20-25 hours as a catering assistant in one of two shops. Im not interested in staying in management anymore. How do I go about asking for this? Do I write a letter? How should it be set out and what should it contain? I want it to go as easily as possible as its a crappy company anyway and they are not very favorable to people becoming pregnant and leaving them in the 'lurch'. Any help would be greatly appreceated. Thanks!

mumbear is there any reason you can't request to do your management job on a part time basis? Job share or something? Is it management itself you don't want anymore or is it because you don't think that could be done 20-25 hours a week?

If it's a different job you want, is there a catering assistant vacancy for the hours you want in one of the shops you want to work in? Presumably if you don't want to be the manager any more they will have to recruit a manager to replace you, so there would have to be a need for a catering assistant as well as a manager.

You have the right to request flexible working, see here for more information about what you need to do. BUt it would usually involve request a change to the hours or working arrangements for your existing job, not a change of job entirely.
