Can I privately teach antenatal education?

I'm just wondering if I'm missing something obvious, and wanted a bit of feedback...

I'm a midwife and I'm moving to a house with an extra room in which I was planning to practise reflexology and teach antenatal education.

Is there anything stopping me from doing this? Do I need to have any other qualification apart from my midwifery diploma?

I do plan to do another course to enhance my qualis to undertake antenatal education and am currently torn between the NCT accredited antenatal teaching course, or just doing a PGCE course which might open more doors for me anyway?

Any comments? Advice?

Thanks

I don't think so, oatcake. My ante-natal lady was an ex midwife and NCT teacher, and that was it. the NCT background was what attracted most of us to her I think, so I would say that might be the more valuable thing to do rather than the PGCE (though as you say that might give you more career options....)

I really enjoyed my ante-natal classes with her, hers was run from a room in her house too.

Good luck!

Sorry for asking, but is PGCE?
I did NCT antenatal course and I liked it, it was recomended it to me, and I recomend NCT courses to my friends.

i looked into NCT and felt it was not flexible enough and took too long. found another course through childbirth international, that does a distance learning antenatal educator course... not teh same qualification, but looks good. depends how far you want to go with the teaching side of things

mrsmalumbas is a trainer for CBI
