transcription services - please help

I tentatively put out some feelers to do some transcription work and can't believe it but some one has somework they want me to do and is asking for a costing!!! Has anyone done this type of work and what rate did you charge? Also i believe it will be taped converations to transcribe so a normal audio machine (used in office) is what i need but if it is on digitally recorded what will i need? I didnt think i would get anything so am a bit ill prepared for this. Please help. Thanks

I read an article recently about someone who wanted some dictation written up - he got quotes from people all over the world, since it is so easy to send audio files anywhere. This is not said to put you off, but to warn you that it is a very competitive marketplace.
