Redundancy - any tips from survivors welcome

I am being made redundant next year. It's been on the cards so whilst not actually a shock I would really welcome some advice and tips from people who've been there and come out the other side.

My priorities at the moment are negotiating a decent pay off and thinking about what i want to do next.

has anyone completely changed direction after redundancy? I'd like to do something different but not sure where to start.

TIA

Yes, decent pay-off was top of my list, but we also managed to get everybody a number of sessions with a career consultancy. Some didn't think it was that useful, but most did. I liked it a lot; gave me a chance to take a step back and think about what I would really like to do next. I was quite surprised at how much came out of just sitting down with someone who knew to ask the right questions. Certainly confirmed for me that the options I was thinking of were the right ones, and gave me new ideas on top. HTH...

That sounds good Julen thanks. I have been told to think of what support I need/ want and so it would be useful to pick the brains of other people about what was useful and what wasn't.

Hi, I was made redundant in March, I spent my redundancy money on a family holiday to Florida which is something I always wanted to do but could not normally afford, I then temped when I got back from my holiday until a perm job came up and looking back it was the best thing that could of happened careerwise as I now earn more and my job is a lot less stressful. I thought about a change of career, but after looking into it anything that interested me would have meant a cut in salary. Good luck, hope it work out well for you.

Thanks kslatts. Disneyland would be top of the children's list of 'what mummy can do with her redundancy money'.

Dp would rather have root canal than go there though.
