looking for part-time work and getting really fed up with it.

It's such a disgrace what potential employers offer... there's such a discrepancy in wages it makes me cry!

For a job that as a full-time position would pay lets say 27k per year the part-time variation would be 23k pro rata per year! WTF. It's still the same job! but it seems people (i.e. mainly mothers) who want part-time work are being taken advantage off because they want part-time work.

Then again 1/2 the time I don't even get considered because I'm too experienced. FFS I wouldnt' apply for a position if I weren't happy to do it!

then of course the question 'why don't you want full-time' erhem I've got 2 small children and childcare would ruin me. But then of course as soon as you mention small children... door closes. Not officially for that reason of course but...

Sorry had to rant as I'm getting majorly p'd off...

I couldn't agree more. You can't use your skills and experience, and you can't get paid decently if you're part-time, especially if you really want to be part-time, not doing 5 days' work in 3 days. Drives me mad. I know there are some professions out there where you can, but generally speaking it's a huge waste of women's ability.

I wouldn't even mind doing 5 days work in 3 days IF they'd pay a fair wage!

And don't get me started on jobshares argh

Xenia, working for myself. Hmmm, I know there are freelance PA's/Remote ofice people out there and it's very hard to get into to build up a clientel. Same with webpage design. Am doing photography as well and planning to start that side up a bit more in earnest, but also lots of competition and need to build client base So you see it had crossed my mind

Whizzbangcaligula I shall have a look at that url
