Hi there. I'm older my DD is grown up, bin mumsnetting to bone up before I become a nana. Not imminent, but could be within next couple of years.

However I've had depression on and off in my (57 yo) life.

What I can say is that sometimes when depressed we find many things to regret, but frequently when we are feeling better we realise it was the right decision after all. We can get into a sort of loop in our heads, which keeps going over the same thing. It can be hard to break out of it.

One thing I have found helpful is cognitive behavioural therapy CBT, as well as medication. CBT can help you break into more positive ways of thinking and this can help to elevate your mood.

There is lots of info online about CBT, even some free courses in it.
Good luck, and don't beat yourself up over it. Even if it was a mistake, there is light (or soon will be) at the end of the tunnel. Smile
