shit stirring boss

I work within a small team and as summer is a busy period we employed two summer workers. My boss is on holiday for ten days and as supervisor im in charge when she is away. One of the summer workers has been arse licking the boss before she went away - buying expensive gifts for her birthday, staying behind to chat about soaps and what ever. My boss has done nothing but bitch to me about her saying shes so full on etc. I am having trouble with the summer worker as she constantly challenges everything i say, tries to remind me of tasks even when i am about to do them, she is a nightmare!
so, boss away on hols told us all not to contact her unless urgent. A few days in the summer worker points out a problem, i tell her how to deal with it and said its fine its happened before. She then went behind my back and 'facebooked' my boss via private message told her of the problem and asked how she would sort it. My boss told her what i had told her then proceeded to ask how things were, friendly chats etc. So i am in charge and i have never been asked how things are. The girl clearly has a problem with me been in charge and must think im shit at my job.
the other summer worker has expressed her concerns about the bitching and tells me what the trouble maker had said. She also said i wonder what she (me) will get pulled up on when boss is back.
i am so angry my boss is having conversations over Facebook with these workers instead of coming to me who has been running the place! I am annoyed she bitches to me about them yet bitches to them about me! I am done, ready for walking after this. What should i do?

How do you know about the private Facebook message?

The other worker told me about it, told her what she said in the message. She said she thought i should know. I watch what i say i don't trust any of them. She has also read aloud bits that my boss has sent her like 'missing you'

I knew you were going to say that....she sounds like the shit stirrer to me...or at least just as bad.

In your position I would pull rank in a BIG way. You need to remove yourself from it all...if one of them starts the gossip/bitching then you say something unrelated such as reminding them of a task that needs doing...don't' eat your lunch with them.

When your boss gets back ask for a meeting and a review of your work so far...find out if she's happy and air your concerns.

Thanks for the advice, that's a good idea actually. Ive stopped having lunch with them purely because i cant stand to be around them knowing they do nothing but talk about me behind my back. My boss is quite bitchy. I made a mistake with a task the other week and my boss must have told them about it COs they knew, which doesn't help matters. If my boss is bitching to them then they are going to listen to it and make their minds up from her views. She is very two faced and ive lost a lot of respect for her. The job itself is high pressured and im not coping with the pressure. I am so stressed that i am getting ill, i have an appt with the gp. I am looking for something else.

Don't let your boss or those temps push you out though...is there a HR department? Could you put in a complaint?

There is yes. I just fear that working alongside them everyday it would make it awkward for me if i were to put in a complaint. I am only part time and the rest are full time so i feel the situation would only get worse. My boss is offering the summer workers a permanent job for one day a week, so looks like i will be seeing more of them. I will say to my boss about all this when she is back and see what happens then, but no doubt i will be to blame as usual.

Well that's how bullies get away with what they do diamond by making people afraid to report them.
