Driving myself mad waiting on news of job interview

Went for an interview over two weeks ago, fabulous job and I thought it went really, really well. They warned me at the interview that they unfortunately wouldn't be able to let everyone know the outcome for TWO WEEKS because it had to be signed off by the head of department and s/he'd gone on holiday for two weeks that day. Confused

So I'm still waiting and, frankly, driving myself crazy imagining every possible scenario - I have got it, I haven't, they hate me, they love me, they've forgotten to let me know I haven't got it, they're just crap at getting back to people. Argh, it's torture.

I'm trying to carry on as normal with my life (got made redundant end of last year and am now doing some fairly dull freelance work, but do have money coming in so not the end of the world or anything). But I'm literally on tenterhooks dreaming that I might have got this wonderful job. Or not.

How long do I have to wait before they tell me???? Sad

Oh yes, they said at the interview: "Don't worry if you don't hear from us for two weeks, but if it gets to three weeks or anything maybe give us a ring, chuckle."

So I feel a bit reluctant to contact them and follow up just yet. It won't actually be three weeks until next Wednesday.

Gibber. I'm going craaaaazeeeeeee.....

Emmm ..... well it sounds like you have to wait until this person comes back from holiday? If interview was two weeks ago and she went on holiday that day, does that mean she is back today? Or next Monday? Either way you will need to allow a couple of extra days because signing of a new job req after two weeks away from her desk may not be top of her pile of things to do. If you don't hear anything by mid-week next week, I would make a call to them.

Thanks Unexpected - I totally realise you are talking a lot of sense, just can't stop bloody thinking about it all the time and wondering what if.... Maybe I just need to spend the next few days in the pub to take my mind off it Grin

I am in a similar position, except for the freelance work bringing money in. My JSA comes to an end on July 11th and I'm really panicking now.

I had 3 i'views in 3 days two weeks ago. The first two were a big fat no, although feedback said I'd performed well, but still waiting on the third one. It's excruciating and miserable.

Tried to take my mind off it watching a movie this lunchtime and I picked one where a guy was trying to get on with life whilst mourning his partner of 16 years. Confused

Great choice Meow!! I just ate half a massive bar of chocolate. Confused

Meow, I think chocolate is a brilliant idea in these troubling times. Grin Good luck with your job - hope they tell you soon.

I also went for an interview nearly 2 weeks ago. I would love the job but no news.... The agency I went through have chased and it turns out the CEO is now on holiday and they have no idea when then will hear anything!...... I am starting to think they are a bit rude and should have said this up front. Plus it makes them seem disorganised.... Anyway, in the meantime I am interviewing for other roles, if I do end up hearing from them then good. But I have kind of written it off as they said at interview they wouldn't keep people waiting. The agency keep saying how much they said they liked me. Most confusing.

Oh the waiting game. It is utter torture!

Still no news either way for me - at least I was warned about the delay. Wish I just knew one way or t'uther.

So after nigh on 3 weeks of waiting, finally got an email saying I didn't get it. Which is nice. Hmm

On a positive note, I'm off to the pub tonight.

That's so shit. I hate it when that happens.

I have had 5 job interviews in the last 6 weeks or so.

I had to chase one of those after they had not informed me one way or the other after 3 weeks, didn't get it. One other has never contaced me at all. That really pisses me off because it was a 180km round trip and when I got there it was a bloody telemarketing job which was not clear at all in the ad.

Any news OP? I'm in the same boat at the moment. I had an interview yesterday and at the end, they casually said that due to their busy schedules, they wouldn't be able to let people know until Monday or Tuesday next week, aargh Angry Although I have another interview for the same role in another organisation on Friday so if I were to be offered that one then that would be something to think about Grin

Onwards and upwards anyway guys - applying for another very similar role now at another organisation, so I daresay the same thing will happen with this lot (that's if I even get an interview). Cries.

This drives me mad too. DH has been job hunting since April and the amount of times he has been kept waiting for weeks or told that actually, they're not sure what the nitty gritty of the job is yet and will be in touch when they are, is a real pisstake. It's so disheartening and makes the whole thing even more stressful than it is anyway.

It is very disheartening isn't it, but I have confidence in you and your ability to find a good job. I know how hard it is to stay resilient in these situations!
