I have been given the opportunity to apply to become team leader for my department. The other two people I work with have also been asked as we are all on same level and do same job so the company are being fair asking us all to apply. Tell me what qualities you need to be a team lead and what does it entail on top of doing your normal duties?

It will depend on your employer what extra duties you have to do. Do you have a new job description for the team leader role to look at.

Managing people can be really good - and really frustrating, depending on the people.

Never ask people to do something you wouldn't be prepared to do yourself ( doesn't mean you actually have to do it). Try not to micromanage everything people do - it tends to really irate a lot of people

Oh no i would never, ever micro manage - it is something that really gets on my nerves!
I know 2 of us are going for it and therfor inteviews will be set up. I just want to wow them in my interview and look like i know what im talking about to put me above the other person also going for it.
I am also prepared to be responsible for the subordinates, i said in my e-mail I am happy to do that. The other colleague going for it is quiet and I just cant imagine her leading me better than I lead her. I just need the correct words to use in the interview.
Why do i think i can leade the team, what will i do?

I just dont know what to say!

I'm a Team Leader. My duties above the standard ones are opening and closing the store, running the store when managers aren't there, "delegating" (my company loves that word) tasks to my colleagues, doing reports, banking the money, basic payroll. I'm a glorified sales assistant without the manager's pay packet Grin

Hi
You could try googling leadership traits to get some ideas.
Good luck
