employer pension costing me a fortune- can I opt out?

hi
i've worked in my current govt job for nearly 10 years. My pension payments have more than doubled.
I was paying £16 per month, but this month I paid £43. I work part time and can't afford to lose the extra money.
As my tax code has now changed I didn't pay tax or national insurance this month- which has helped.
Can I opt out of paying this, or will they let me pay a smaller amount?
I am bringing home less each month than I was when on maternity leave :(
i've tried ringing HR but the line is always busy

Don't know whether you can opt out but if you do you might regret it hugely later

You'll be able to come out of it, but how/when etc will depend on the terms and conditions of the scheme. Do you not have any written information about it, or contact number for the provider rather than just HR?

I agree to stay in if humanely possible, in your circumstances with that pension and that much service.
