Term Time Working or dropping to 4 day working week

Hi

I am wondering if there is anyone out there in MN World who could offer me some advice on reducing my hours to Term Time only, or possibly reducing my hours by 1 day per week, and what the financial implications are.

I currently work 37 1/2 hours per week over 5 days. I am a single mum to 3 kids and am finding working full time is not really working out.

My salary is just over £15,000 per year, and I get child tax credit, working tax credit, housing benefit (I am in private rented accommodatoin), child benefit. I am, hopefully, due to get a minimal payment of my ex via the CSA for child maintenance. I pay for a childminder 2 afternoons a week for 2 of my children. I provide everything else financially for myself and my 3 children.

I suppose what I am looking for is if someone can put into "blonde" terms how reducing my hours would affect me financially.

I have chekced out the policy at work, and this is what it says:-

The salary is paid monthly as one twelfth of the annual salary. The annual salary is based on forty four paid weeks out of a full year of fifty two weeks. The remaining eight weeks are unpaid.

Part time staff are paid pro rata to the forty four weeks in proportion to their worked hours.

The forty four weeks are made of up of:

On appointment: 38 working weeks plus 6 weeks annual leave

Staff working term time only will have their arrangements detailed in their contract of employment.

Staff who have a statutory right to request ?Flexible Working? can use the statutory process to request a change to their hours or working pattern e.g. change from part time to term time, increase or decrease their hours. Where there is no statutory right to request ?Flexible Working? a manager does not have to consider any request for a change to the contracted hours or pattern of work. Any request will be treated on a case by case basis and will be considered in light of service demands.

Can anyone offer me some advice that I could understand along with, possibly, some figures on how I might be affected financially on a monthly basis???


if there is no-one who can do this, does anyone know, apart from Citizen's Advice, where i might be able to get some information from?

So, you currently work 37.5 hrs a week and have 6 weeks paid and 8 weeks unpaid?

No, at the moment I work 37.5 hours a week, and have 5 weeks paid holiday a year.
