Hello, just a quick introduction. My hubby-to-be lost his last job when my eldest was 4 weeks old in Nov 2010. Due to a very bad job market and living in a very rural location we've been relying on benefits reluctantly for the last 2 years. We now have another little one. Today my fiance secured himself a trial that starts tomorrow. (He got the call at 7pm tonight so can't call the CAB or jobcentre to run the figures). If all goes well he'll be back in paid employment until the seasonal contract ends in October. I myself, am a very anxious person and I plan our finances out very carefully months and months in advance.

I'm really worried that we are going to be worse off. Can anyone please shed some light on what help we will be entitled to if he is working 26hours a week at minimum wage. As far as I am aware we'll get no help with housing benefit or council tax benefit and no JSA for me. The friends I have that are working are always complaining that they are worse off than on benefits. While we don't struggle on benefits; we buy everything secondhand, eat on a shoestring and never buy any luxuries.

I am overjoyed to finally leave the stigma of being on benefits behind don't get me wrong, but at the same time I am completely petrified that we will fall back into debt. He lost his last job so early into our firstborns life that we were never able to grasp how much money would have been coming in.

Any advice or experience deeply appreciated.

thank you :) I'll do that now. I'm probably worrying over nothing.
