Should I wear my Doctor Martens to job interview?

If wearing with normal length trousers & normal colour laces then no problem.

Wear with day-glo green laces & mini skirt/shorts & they might think it a bit odd !

Havent got any slippers! other shoes are black pointed boots(heel a bit high) or moshulu sandals.

Having worked in another Social Services department if i turn up smart i will be very out of place.

Need to really give the impression that i can be hands on with young offenders on the street-footwear in common if nothing else....and they say 1st impressions....

Apparantly someone turned up in jeans and a hoodie - needless to say no job for him.

Go for formal, 'not you' and uncomfortable for the interview. When they meet you, they'll know that you'll be able to be 'hands on' in your own clothes.

You also need to show that you'll be able to conform to straightdom if required.

Your character will shine through, I'm sure.

I have already met the head of the youth offending team who will be interviewing me so i myself feel happy to wear them,but from you lot it looks like its a big NO!

i have always done advice sector/charity work.

dms + levis fine in the office (a bit on the posh side, really in my office) but can't see them at interview.

we are interviewed by managers but also trustees and the trustees are usually in posh expensive suits (and the maangers in cheap, staticky suits).

do you not have to do presentations/court appearances etc? i thought rule of thumb was to dress the most smartly you would ever have to in the job? (we do court appearances so suits)

thing is, I doubt they won't give you a job because you are more formally dressed . that is what you do for interviews. they might because you were in jeans. think it depends whether you would ever need to dress smartly in post, though.

I agonised for hours over what to wear to my last interview, went for a suit and was very relieved-I saw my manager in a suit for pretty much the first time.

my workplace is so casual that we actually keep our suits at work so we can change intp them before court, thus saving us from wearing suits for most of the day.

I would as a rule never wear jeans for an interveiw, I wouldn't wear the full suit in this case but perhaps smart trousers and a smartish top/ blouse and practical but smart looking shoes.

Will the interveiw panel be very casual or are thet likely to dress up for interveiwing. We have to when conducting interveiws, the usual cargo tousers and polo tops are not allowed but shirt , dress tousers and a blazer, or a full suit. But I am not in the same line of work as you.

My eldest dd, who is definitely not known for wearing anything remotely "girly", wore DMs at a wedding - they were under a pair of black trousers and didn't look any different from a normal pair of lace-up shoes (which was fine until she showed everyone at the reception!)

IME, when the YO team show up at a court appearance it's normally shirt (no tie) and casual trousers (not jeans though) for men but the women always turn up a bit smarter.
Have to say haven't seen many women YOT workers.
