Fancy Dress Ideas for World Book Day

Each year my daughters school encourage all pupils & teachers to dress as a character from a book for World Book Day and it is such a hassle! She's in year three and when she was younger it was easy they all just went in a Disney Princess dress. Now she;s older, wants to look cool, thinks she;s a bit old for fancy dress but still wants to take part as otherwise she'll stand out (!). Any ideas? I can be slightly creative, but not very, but its the ideas that i lack!

The worst witch! Actually thinking about it DD in yr3 went as the ladybird from James and The Giant Peach- that is a really easy costume- large red T. shirt if I remember she has a certain amount of spots (which I sowed black felt cicles on. I painted her face and made her feelers out of the doodle boppers and she wore black tight and black plimsolls! easy

Theresa - our local library had a Roald Dahl day recently. Any of his characters make good costumes.
DD1 was Verucca Salt from Charlie and Chocolate Factory
DD2 was an Oompa Loompa!

My dd and her friend (at a different school) both were CB on last book day - but don't know if they would have been instantly recognisable as "characters" unless someone was a real CB fan!

Californication, my dds like Swallows and Amazons.

but then DP and I both grew up with it and sail so we have pushed it rather.

Susan (except noone would go as her, she's boring) and Titty were the Swallow girls, Nancy and Peggy the Amazon girls. With a little wooden boat with a red sail. We're getting a little wooden boat with a red sail, the dds are going to hoist a pirate flag

Just read it again and got it, very clever (do i admit to searching on it as a book title?). It is a brill idea but i'm sad to say that it's probably 'too different' for her!

Just thought about opening a similar thread but I'm going to hijack yours (sorry).

Suggestions for a 7-year-old boy (also yr 3) anyone? I Unfortunately ds is not into Harry Potter (yet?), his current favourites are Horrid Henry/Perfect Peter and "The boy who could fly" but I'm not sure how to make him look like any of these.

Also I don't really fancy ordering expensive stuff, it should be something rather simple, however, noticeable, lol.

martianbishop: great idea, but do the other children (or even teachers)really 'get' that?
