Newcastle High School for Girls

Anyone here with daughters who will be attending this school September? We've had our daughter down to start reception there for a few years, except we actually put her down to start Central however as it's now merged and will be becoming Newcastle High School for Girls in September we are actually getting worried about what this new school will be like.

My niece is actually leaving Central sixth form this year to go to university so she doesn't have to worry about the merger. She's always loved her time at Central and we loved it too from the open days we have been to.

I know Central and Church are/were both good schools so presumably they'll be keeping that up at the new school, I just hope I've made the right choice.

I've had/have 3 at Central over the past three years (DD2 is in the same year as your DN), all in the senior school and out of the six schools they've been to (we move a lot), Central is/has been their favourite - v v supportive and friendly as well as lots of different opportunities.
I was a bit concerned about DD3 going into sixth form this September and did, fleetingly, consider moving her, but I think the merger is being handled well and, although there is still a bit of a niggle about whether the girls will retain old loyalties (;-)), I think the staff will be alert to any problems. However, going into reception, your DD won't have any of that - they will all be NHSG girls.
Why not try it for a year and reassess next year?

Hi Just wondered how you have the new school. My daughter is still there and the impact is minimal. I think Church High numbers have fallen so low over the last few decades that it feels much the same.

My niece is there and she seems happy enough. Just started so still early days!
