My kids' school has decided to embrace twitter

I'm not sure how I feel about this
They are tweeting photos of the kids

Any thoughts?

All our local schools do the same - what is your concern?

If you've signed photographic permission for website/blog etc and they've been used on there then no different really
Schools are trying out lots of different ways to contact/update parents, if you don't want your dc's photos to be used opt out, I know many people have different views on their children's pics getting used online

I do this, as a teacher. I never post names and don't put pictures of children who are not supposed to have pictures on the website/in the paper.

Lots of departments at my (secondary) school do. Kids use Twitter and so it's a good way to keep them up to date with what departments are doing and is also a good way of publicising events to parents. Kids tweet me questions - "when's the homework due?" "What time does the trip get back" and so on.

I've never had any problems or concerns with it.

I also have a Facebook page (closed group) for students who do extra curricular stuff in my dept. Again, it's a good way to get info to the right people easily and I have never had any concerns or worries from parents or from school.

My DC school do this. Also FB. It usually amounts to a comment or photo on the odd sporting event, or a group photo on location of school trips.
I've no problem with it.
There is more on the school web page and FB than twitter.

DS's school have a twitter account. Today's tweet is a reminder of the 2nd hand uniform sale. We got a daily tweet when they were on a recent residential which was lovely as otherwise there was no communication (phones not allowed which I agree with).

With my children, both primary and secondary school have twitter accounts. In both cases, I was not automatically accepted as a follower until they had checked that I was a parent.

I find it v.useful. Early notifications of school closures e.g. due to snow. Tweets updating parents about arrival times of coaches after a school trip.
