Any experience with the American School in London's admissions process??

I've been waiting tooth and nail to find out whether my kids have been accepted (or not) to ASL. Does anyone have any experience with the school and when parents are generally notified? My kids' applications were completed by the deadline of February 1st and I've been told "end of February" (today is February 20th). One of my kids was accepted to another school (ASL knows and I've asked for an extension to accept or decline and that school made a concession to do so) and the other three will be tested at the same school next week, but this means heading to London from Italy for the tests and interviews, which I would cancel if the kids get accepted to ASL.

I've had great exchanges with ASL, but now that it's crunch time, I've heard nothing in a while. The other school where the kids are applying has been wonderful and very accommodating (and has a strong sibling policy), which is also making me feel incredibly guilty that I'm putting them off as I await news...

All sounds very stressful , it is half term here this week , assume ASL has UK holidays so that may account for it being quiet

Thanks outtolunchagain. I'm sure you're right. By the way, I totally messed up that expression, which should be "fighting tooth and nail" vs. "waiting"! I've been living in Italy too long!

I think I found out for my DC on the 28th Feb, but that was eight years ago, for my DTs, and on the 27th for my DC3, that was five years ago. We've had to move since then, so haven't kept track (we moved to the area from Sweden, now in the USA).

Yes, they were great, lovely teachers, great pastoral care, just generally great. I think each year they had about 250-300 new students coming in (a lot weren't starting in the first year) , most people didn't spend their whole school time there, a lot of my friends I met because of my DC being there were only staying for two to three years for work for instance, but that might change. We had financial aid help, and we only found out if we got the aid early May, I found out on the 4th of May, the other time I can't remember, possibly the 7th, although we'd already found out we'd been accepted. I think they might have changed that now?

Anyway, it was honestly amazing. They had great facilities, lovely teachers, loads of opportunities. They were very good with their creative side, and they had school plays, choir, art club. They were also very supportive, and new students were given buddies when they first joined, who were confident and spoke English well, regardless of which country they came from, who spoke their language originally (bit as i said, had good English skills) or ca,e from the same country, although they encouraged them and paired them up with other people, they made sure no one felt lost or confused or homesick. They also had an English as a second language help thing which was good. They had quite a lot of homework though, but tbh I found that was the same in most American schools, they get an extraordinary amount. They had after school stuff, but no breakfast club, again, this might have changed.

DC = Dear Child
DC3 = Dear Child 3

We still haven't heard from ASL. Hoping they didn't send the acceptances on Friday and save the rejections till next week.

Thanks tasmania and outtolunchagain! Wish I could add some good news to the end of this thread, but found out Friday that 2/4 kids were accepted by ASL.

On to Plan B as we won't separate our kids into two different school systems- British and American- since our move to London is definite for an indefinite period of time, at least until the youngest graduates from high school.

Hi Juggling four,

Sorry , dont mean to hijack your thread but just read that you are coming from an American school in Italy to London. Would that be St Stephen's in Rome, by any chance?
I have applied for a place for my DC for this Sept ( IB programme) and wanted some first hand experience/advice. Have tried previously on MN but with no success.
Would appreciate any info if it is relevant but full apologies if you are talking about Milan or elsewhere.

We heard-BAD NEWS, wait pool-on Tuesday though others we know heard last Friday leaving us hanging over weekend and then some. Very stressful. I have no idea whether the wait pool is feasible and don't think I can't wait until the last minute so we move to plan B as well. Juggling Four, what grades are your children in? What other options are you considering? I agree--having your children in two different systems at two different places is crazy. I do want the school we choose to provide a sense of community for all of us.

Anyone receive admission decision news in 2014? We are on the edge of our seats waiting to hear about K1 for our son. Based on the experience above, it sounds like good news may be received today, wait pool next week.

Reports of results this year (2014) warmly appreciated!

We have not heard from ASL for 2104. Our education "consultant" has no information at all.

No news either. Spoke to the admissions office and they said they will have letters out 'shortly' - agony!

The wait is excruciating! Do you know how the will contact us with a decision? I'm assuming it will be by email? We are still in the U.S.

Knoxtolondon, You are right, it must be via email. BTW, Since you are moving from the US, I assume your Dc are from an american curriculum, did you ever consider the British schools?

And anyone who hears pls post, so we know offer letters are being rolled out.

pandith, We have not considered the British schools since we are not moving over permanently (3-5 years). And my husband's company is paying for the schools. :-) My kids will be entering 1st, 6th, and 7th grades. We have also applied to Southbank. If they are not accepted to ASL, we will probably apply to at least 2 more schools.

We have not heard yet either noon in the States. I applied children to 3rd and 7th grade. I am sure we will all get in some place! Right????

I just got the email. All 3 kids were accepted! I am over the moon! :-)
