Obtaining copies of policies - why is it so difficult?

I have had problems obtaining a copy of some school policies and been told to come back another day etc. The school website now states that copy policies will not be given to parents without permission from the HT first. Does this seem odd? They don't publish them on their website either but I know that other schools do.

That does sound odd. They should be able to point you to an online copy even if they don't want to get into giving printouts to everyone. (I can understand not wanting to do printed copies - it could get expensive if the world and his wife wanted them, not to mention time consuming for the secretarial staff.) They should be available to you to see, however.

Very odd, and against all inspection guidelines for the ISI, and so I presume Ofsted as well...?! If it's an independent school, they could actually fail an inspection for not having all the policies available.

Hmm,they did have an Ofsted visit recently (not a full inspection) and this has been added after that. Before, it used to say that you could request copies from the office but when I did that they put me off saying their server was offline Hmm

Very odd indeed. Try googling Rugby School and see the page of policies under their parent information. Those are the sort of policies that have to ba available to every parent, fully visible and easy to access. You should certainly get them without having to go through the head!

Ours are on the school website too. Odd that yours aren't.

Just googled a few more schools, including this comprehensive school:

www.fulford.york.sch.uk/about-fulford/policy-documents

That's what all schools should have.

Ours are on the school website too - quite a comprehensive list.
