A plea from an Adult Ed tutor... If you are thinking about enrolling for an Adult Ed course, most of them start next week so DO IT NOW!

In my area the fees have increased because the government has 're-directed' funding to school leavers with no qualifications. For me, this means I planned 8 courses for this term - 3 are running. Times are hard!

NoPearls - how I sympathise - I'm an adult literacy tutor - they have cut funding for those who aren't capable of doing Entry 1 level exams (which is why a lot of them were on our courses anyway!), cut learning disabled funding and are trying to take away our freedom to decide what is best for students by making them do tests. Many will run a mile because they hated tests and exams at school - will have to see what happens next week. A colleague and I worked hard for Stage 2 qualifications and wonder why we bothered - one colleage has one class dropped and only has one now. My daytime short courses have all been axed.

Hope your three courses continue to run. Any other ~Adult Ed tutors out there to share support and moans !! ?? Best of luck to you all. More experienced colleagues say we are either awash with funding or cut to the bone ? What a way to run an education service !!!!
