Ok, going to have to admit I don't have a clue how you wear these

DD starts Year 4 tomorrow complete with hockey stick, boots and shin pads. Do they go inside the socks? We tried that and they looked really daft lol!

Help!

Depends on what type of shin pads you're using. Our hockey team at school wore football shin pads rather than proper hockey ones (bar the goalie of course) - in which case they'd go under the socks and are much less bulky than hodkey pads - think the only downside is they don't come up quite so high and don't always have the bits for covering the ankle bones (although it's been at least 9 years since I played properly so may well be able to get football ones with hard bit to cover the ankle bones.. I started with hockey pads and quickly changed over as they looked ridiculous under socks and made boots very tight round the ankles. Yes, you would wear them under socks but they are pretty bulky. HTH

Yes they should go inside. We have a similar problem with ds's as there is no way he is going to be able to pull the socks fully over them by himself so heaven help his games teacher. Last year he had Nike socks which had an intergral shin and ankle pad but now he needs regulation socks.

Wangle99, they're very similar to the ones I started off with - they do offer good protection but found that a) bulky under socks and b)where they are that foam stuff your legs get very sweaty underneath them. These were the main reason that many on our team used football ones a) thinner/lighter and b)had material between leg and plastic which stopped the sweat prob. Does your DD's school insist on hockey pads or would she get away with a decent football style pad? Not trying to put you off the ones you've got, just a couple of points from a practical wearing view.

The school just specifies shin pads, preferably with ankle protection. I don't mind buying something more suitable if it's going to be better for her to use.

I'll have a look around online.
