get a knife and peel a thin layer of wood off one side at the top of the pencil and write the name there with a pen.

A permane/ant marker pen? I bought some to go in party bags, made by a company called StarCase, based in Worcester.

Depends on her name but if it is reasonably common you can buy pencils with names on. I got some for ds1 and his best friend to put in their brand new pencil cases for when they start juniors on Monday. Bought them in Asda.

Print off a load of names on the pc and sellotape them around the pens/pencils. Make sure the tape goes all around them as they will try to pick it off.

thanks for suggestions. her name is isabel so if i get a label and stick it on then you won't be able to read it - her name is too long!
like the idea of the Asda ones - didn't want to spend a fortune though and still have problem of labelling felt tips and coloured pencils!
it was much easier when she went to nursery school!

We got some with DS's name on from Wilkinsons, they didn't have DD's name on which is more common if you ask me.

You can also buy pencils with names on them from Studio.

it is the sort of thing I LOVE doing dino. I even lined up all the coloured pencils to make sure the names were in exactly the same place on each - sigh. I just love stationery...

Cod now that DD is going into the prep school she enters the world of pencil cases, caran d'ache coloured pencils and rubbers that smell like strawberry shortcake - sigh. Did I say I just LOVE stationery??!
