Has anyone used Hermes couriers? Are they Ok or dodgy?

I had to send something back tracked, so decided to use these people as they were cheap.
In hindsight I ought to have used parcelforce but anyway...

parcel picked up on Weds. Courier is our usual home shopping guy, so far so good.

The delivery is meant to take 3-5 days. I've checked the tracking, nothing on Weds, Thurs it says 'collected at 13.08 weds'

There is nothing else yet. I rang the company. I get Janice who has only been there a week but tries to log into the screen which shows them 'more detail'. It says 'collected' too.

I ask Janice whether there is anyone else I can speak to as I am not feeling reassured. (I have seen some awful reviews on the net by now)

She looks around,
'Can't see anyone, no...'

I tell Janice I will call back later. She is very nice. My parcel is probably in Outer Mongolia by now.

Help.

I think they may be rubbish...
I ordered something from debenhams recently & they sent it with these hermes who have lost it I didn't receive anything at all but when I went to online tracking it claimed they have left it in a secure location & left a card. Well I didn't get any card, and it never turned up so I had it refunded in the end. But also when I looked at the time they came with this alledged card, I was at home and I can't have missed them as my front door is directly into the living room. So they either took to someone else's house, or have just nicked it and lied about attempted delivery...

Oh bugger, that doesn't sound too good.

Thanks...

I did speak to a different person later and she seemed to think it would have gone onto the big lorry on Thurs evening, and arrive at their depot (weybridge) on Monday, then out to the courier.

I checked the tracking this morning and it said 'received by Hermes' so I think they got it yesterday instead of Monday. That was quite reassuring.

However it is not a friendly transaction, it's a paypal claim, so she might try and be out/claim it wasn't delivered etc etc and I am not sure I trust Hermes to get a signature iyswim...

Oh well, will wait and see! Next time I'm definitely using parcelforce!

don't want to be bearer of bad tidings....

our house is not that easy to find but not impossible, everyone else manages it. Vertbaudet have been trying to deliver (with Hermes) since I ordered stuff in August - 4 attempts now, every time the stuff doesn't appear and when I ring Vertbaudet the couriers tell them they left it 'in my porch'.

Bobbi Brown used to use the same couriers and exactly the same thing happened, Hermes said the stuff was 'left in porch'.

I don't have a porch.

That is rubbish!!! Oh My Goodness.

I just hope this woman has a porch! Mind you they have to obtain a signature, as it's a valuable item thus insured, so they will be watching their own backs hopefully - if they don't make her sign I shall be claiming £250 back from them!

Just updating...they delivered it, got signature, the tracking got very good gradually with enough detail etc.

Also I contacted them by email and got very personal, polite, informative replies within 24hrs each time.

Very impressed actually.

I'm not sure i'd use them again for something important as it takes so long - 5/6 days from posting to delivery - and my nerves can't take it! But it got there in the end.

I have used them often in Germany and found them to be reliable and quick with good customer service. Are they quite new in UK?

They have done catalogue deliveries for ages (used to be Redcats? but were either taken over or changed name) but recently started to offer personal deliveries too.

I got referred to them by a friend and we both got a discount.

It was very cheap but rather stressful waiting. Glad they have a good rep on the continent.

it's a rebranding of parcelnet apparently. i waited in all day yesterday expecting a redelivery as per their note (who delivers parcels on a saturday afternoon?) and it was showing on the website as "out for delivery" followed by "parcel not received by courier" i thought they'd lost it, but it did turn up at 3pm today.

point is my usual postie would have left it with neighbours, parcelforce dude would have left it the post office, so i'd rather it had come with royal mail despite delays as i'd at least have been reasonably sure of it arriving, rather than wasting a whole say and thinking they'd lost it.

hermes do deliveries for Next and Vertbaudet and I have always found them to be reliable, but then I've never had anything collected from me and delivered elsewhere. I think the delivery routes are done as subcontracts so I suppose it depends on who your local agent is? The team that deliver round here are pretty good, and have sent stuff back for me that I ordered for my holiday but didn't come on time. I know and trust them though.

also waiting for a delivery via them (Wallis)

Sat am: out for delivery
Sat pm: calling card left (umm NO, I was in all day, no attempted delivery, no card)
Mon am: out for delivery (nada - and that message now removed from tracking)
Tue am: out for delivery

They will probably try and deliver tomorrow, the only day of the week that someone isn't around for most of the day.

grrrr

yes i think most of the local couriers/agents are doing it in spare time/evenings etc. so not their main occupation, as such...therefore there is a wide range and there is bound to be variation in type/consistency of service provided.

I am a Hermes courier I have worked for the company for over ten years (formally Parcelnet and Speed link) most couriers are excellent, in the run up to christmas from October I worked 13 hour days 7 days a week and that included being out on my massive rural area on days when the roads were so bad even the post staff were given the option not to go out for health and safety reasons.
I cannot give any official feedback about the customer to customer service but everyone I have collected from has used me again so it cannot be that bad.
Just so people understand a little more about the couriers we are all self employed using own cars we receive a parcel rate no petrol allowance and most have not had a pay rise for eight years or more even though petrol prices have gone through the roof.
My answer to people who complain is if you are out all day and have nowhere to leave parcels safely why order to receive goods at home we have to try three time and only get paid the once and guess what if after three times we cannot deliver, the parcel has to go back to our depot and we do not get a penny so we have worked for nothing. People will always post complaints but most couriers give an excellent service under very difficult conditions at times and most are very long serving we have very strict guidelines and are checked constantly the odd bad one will always get through for a while but most are excellent I even had one of my elderly customers to christmas dinner a few years ago because she was going to be on her own not many shop or office workers would go that far?

Hi All, Just recently I've had the occasion to use Hermes delivery. Here goes... booking was done through Interparcel - I have added insurance as it was a laptop. Parcel got picked up and a sticky label with some numbers was handed to me. Asked about a proper ticket - not available. Parcel took over a week to get to its destination. When it got there, it was left in the outbuilding in a terrible state - carton all ripped, corner of the laptop sticking out and cracked plastic with a bit missing. Recipient mailed some pics, so I could get a claim going. No such luck - Interparcel NOW pointed that Hermes AREN'T SUITABLE FOR COMPUTING DELIVERIES AND ALL SUCH DELIVERIES ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK. So why did they accept insurance premium? What's more to the point - why is E-bay advertising Hermes widely? If they're unsafe, let's get rid of them and not play russian roulette with our parcels.

Avoid Hermes - they clearly do not give a damn and are not accountable. Package collected 26 January - now the 21 February and the package has not been delivered and appears to be missing.

Someone called 'Lou' who lied about a delivery (she claimed the item was refused and no longer required) made such a mess of delivery when we said we were going to complain she sent abusive and threatening text messages which included: "Perhaps you have mental problems? Thanks"; "Freak"; "If I lose my job due to your complaints I will send a letter to your address informing you of this with a letter of thanks..." (taken as an implied threat).

No wonder so many packages get damaged when Hermes employs malicious thugs.

About time 'My Hermes' were shut down - THIS COMPANY IS A DISGRACE.

Do not use Hermes or accept delivery from people who use them - THEY MAY THREATEN AND HARASS YOU IF YOU COMPLAIN. If you are lucky, they will only damage your package or make it disappear!

Adding to the Zombie Thread:

I used MyHermes once in December and it was very good. It was a farmhouse address - a farm on a rural road, no house number - but it was delivered within two days.

I paid for 'signed for' and an extra quid also for insurance, as it was a valuable piece of kit.

Buyer happy, me happy.

I have had some not so great experiences, one parcel was tracked as "left in porch" which we don't have and never appeared. Another delivery status was left on doorstep............surprise,surprise, there was no sign of it when I got home!

Report
LineRunner · 05/03/2013 20:01

That's why sellers need to pay extra for the signature. It's worth it.

Though isn't it a shame that normal service isn't dependable enough? Same with Royal Mail, though.

MrsZoidberg · 05/03/2013 21:36

I sent a parcel with signature, which said it was delivered but recipient wasn't the one who had signed for it - middle of nowhere, no neighbours. I sent a replacement and again, no signature was requested but at least they left it inside the back door.

But, I got my money back (eventually - their system is slow rather than them being difficult) and have used them quite a few times with no issues

Hi i realise this is an old thread, but i wondered if anyone had recently had any problems with Hermes.I have had dreadful problems and would tell anyone who orders anything online to check who the courier is.I waited in for 3 days and today i get an email saying. They will attempt to re-deliver.As they came at 13.59 they must have been invisable as myself and the painter who was doing the front of my house was outside all day.
Funny that!!after ringing the company who i got my product from i got a phone number from him...You cannot get a phone number for Hermes to be told it will be here tonight MMMmm still not here.Hermes is as we know is greek and means Quick and cunning..Quick they are not but cunning they are.If anyone has a problem i will give you the phone number..
