eBay

Urgent "buy it now" question on behalf of my brother...

He's never used ebay before and he's selling a dining table and chairs. He's listed it and had an email from someone who wants to know if he will do "buy it now" - he's happy to do this (mostly just wants rid of the table and chairs) and the buyer has agreed to pay what he's asking. Buyer has good feedback, btw.

Problem is: he can't change his listing to buy it now. I can't understand it - I've changed listings to buy it now before now, but I've logged in with his log-in details and I can't see a way of doing it. Is it because he is a new seller (has no feedback at all)?

Has he got any other options? Have looked through all the ebay FAQs and 'help' and can't find any information.

He thinks I'm some kind of ebay expert and keeps ringing for advice so help!

Cancel the listing if there are no bids and relist it as a BIN.

Thanks WAI - is that the only way to do it now - have they changed the rules about changing to BIN after you've listed?

is there less than 12 hours to go on listing?

I think you have to have a certain feedback to do BIN. Will check.

Here you go:

To sell with Fixed Price format, you must:

have either a minimum feedback rating of 10, or

have confirmed Direct Debit on file for payment of eBay fees (this may take up to 19 days and is not available to eBay.ie sellers), or

if you have a PayPal account, you need to have a minimum feedback score of 5 and accept PayPal as a payment method

TBH, if the buyer is local, I'd be tempted to leave the auction on, wait until he comes and collects, (and pays in cash, NOT paypal), then cancel the auction. I know dealing outside of Ebay is not allowed, but this is one of the areas where it must happen all the time.

Thanks everyone - I knew I'd done it in the past, so laura's post explains it. Panic's over anyway - the buyer rang him to say he'd found a table and chairs elsewhere for cheaper! It was nice of him to ring, I think. He has 5 watchers (I didn't have the heart to tell him that one of them is me) so it might still sell...has 4 days to go.

It's very stressful all this - mainly because he thinks I am a great ebay authority and I really am not (I only have 100 odd feedback)

Thanks for the advice, all.
