The feedback is pretty good. I used to work with Bridal dresses etc and a lot of our dresses used to come from China. They really can knock them out for a fraction of the price they would cost to produce in the UK. Just allow plenty of ordering time to avoid panic. The total price (inc P+P) is very good.

Both my younger sister and my sister in law have bought dresses from china and they were boh happy with them. I only see my sister in laws dress close up as my sis got married abroad and in my opinion it looked nice and fitted well. They both had to get the hem taken up though, I think they leave the hem unfinshed for people to alter to their height.

ppie, I had a quick look at the feedback for this seller. Overwhelming feedback is positive, but there are a few neutral and negative feedbacks with a significant amount of mutually withdrawn feedback, to me is a warning sign.

So I feel you must be prepared to take a little risk and be prepared to incur the expense of alterning to your size (because a lot of feedback said the size was not right) and give yourself lots of time (postage from China takes a while plus time to sort out any issues). Other risks reflected in the feedback include the dress not being anything like in the picture, the material is poor and the seller has poor English so may have difficulty sorting out problems with her.

I live in Shanghai and from experience I can tell you that the quality of the tailoring is pretty hit-and-miss, but for 20 quid you could take a punt. I would guess at that price that the fabric would be a fairly nasty polyester.

Sounds like she might be gouging on the postage too - there's no way she's making any money knocking them out at 6.99 and a couple of the feedbacks refer to high postage charges.

I have a superb dressmaker - if you would like I could ring her for a quote for you. She won't be in the sub-20 quid range, but with the strong pound you might get a good deal (the yuan is pegged to the USD and thus very weak at the moment). I've been meaning to go and get my favourite jeans copied anyway, so I'll dig out her number.

I am so glad I've seen your thread, I'm the same size as you and I bought a brand new beautiful silk dress from China on ebay when I got married 3 years ago. It was fantastic, cost me £170 plus it cost me £80 to have it altered professionally (I bought 2 sizes up to make sure there was extra room). I also took the zip out and put silver eyeholes in it (very easily, i did it myself) so that I then had beautiful silk ribbon up the back.

It was very simple, masses of very good thick silk, beautifully lined, properly weighted. Ornately detailed at the bottom of the train (lots of pearls and sequins) and on the full length sleeves but elsewhere no detail.

I'll just pop off to ebay to see if I can link to it, not seen it on there since i bought it.

Hmmm - decisions decisions!! Do let us know what you decide. That's where the majority of our wedding dresses were made anyway. But I'd hate for you to be let down - esp as it's your big day. Ebay's always a bit of a gamble anyway. Can you afford to risk £100?

I bought one but the skirt part looked like crepe paper and so I never wore it. Best to get one made of satin

One of my friends bought a made-in-china dress from ebay for £100 and was very disappointed with the quality. Shoddy workmanship, horrid fabric. It wasn't really wearable as a wedding dress. I would agree that it appears to be hit and miss. Hope you get a good one if you go for it!
