eBay

This 'ere defect system looks like I've got two of them.

Honestly this is ridiculous. I'm a small time private seller and have been for many years just selling odds and ends around the house and childrens clothes.

I sell a pair of jeans that we're my daughters for £8.00 including postage that were worn once or twice and in like new condition. Full measurements were provided in the listing.

I get positive feedback and the comment ' nice jeans but unfortunately too small in the length for me' and she leaves a low star for description. Great.

The second one beggars belief. A lady buys two of my items and pays just for one. When I notice (quickly i add) i refund her payment and issue a combined invoice which she promptly paid. There is no communication via messages as I didn't think there was a need (and I wanted to get 5 stars for communication) items were sent and positive feedback received.

However because I effectively cancelled this 2nd transaction without any communication I get a defect mark and eBay can't/won't remove it as ive spent hours with live chat trying to explain this. Madness!

Due to the poor result I had with the combined postage issue I honestly cannot be bothered with fighting the jeans/ low stars issue.

Or should I ?

I think the threshold is higher, though, than it was with purely DSRs, you can have more defects without it meaning anything (don't quote me on that).

I have several defects but still get an above standard rating, anyway.

What counts as a defect is very confusing now, has to be 1 for one DSR but only

I just don't understand the system full stop !! so I measure every thing on an item down to the underarm length of the sleeves just to stop any complaints that may crop up.

Don't get me started on defects!

You get them for everything. Recent ones for me -
Neutral feedback- great item postage high (item was FREE post!) buyer admits she left for wrong person but doesn't withdraw feedback DEFECT
Buyer buys 4 items, then opens 2 cases of non receipt just to check when item was posted ( despite me sending tracking details and despatch email) 2 DEFECTS
Buyer buys 30 beads, 35 are posted. Buyer opens not as described case as 1 bead is broken. I explain 5 extra were sent. Buyer happy and closes case but I still get a DEFECT
I could go on...but you get the idea!
Luckily I sell a lot so get loads of good ones as well..but the defect system is ridiculously unfair!

I just checked my account ratings for the first time! I have no defects, but am, alas, a 'Standard' seller!

I also get the message: "This information will be available when this member receives at least 10 detailed seller ratings." for my star ratings. I've sold way more than 10 items since that system came into place, guess my buyers just aren't interested in giving detailed feedback. :(

I've just realised I have a defect. I had an item returned not as described yet it was as described and the seller admitted this. I've just been on with live chat who really could not understand the point and am now waiting on a call back. Angry
