Case opened but don't remember buying item...

I got an email this morning saying a seller had opened a case against me for not paying. It's an item I have looked at but I genuinely do not remember buying.
I have 100% feedback and have always paid immediately in the past. I wouldn't mess a seller about like that Confused
I have messaged them to say I'm very sorry but I don't remember buying the item and can I cancel the order.
I have no idea what's happened. And I feel really bad for the seller and feel like I've done something wrong and stupid even though I know I didn't buy it.

Well, surely it shows in your bought list?

And surely there would have been emails prior to case being opened?

I had a situation a few years back when my ebay account was hacked and I apparently sold 100 plus lap tops that I knew nothing about. The hacker deleted all the emails about the sales and the money they got, fortunately not via my PayPal account, and then restored all my original settings so I was left with the irate sellers emails around "where is my item?" None of the items showed in my sold listing as they had been deleted also.

It was only the sheer number of laptops and also the fact I don't sell and only buy via ebay that managed to convince ebay. I had been hacked.

you won't have any negs as a buyer anyway so that is irrelevant.

If you didn't bid then you need to contact ebay and tell them you were hacked. The seller is as much a victim in this case - and they want their fees back. How much was the item?

The item was £10.99. The first email I got was this morning saying a case was opened.
I have no idea what's happened - I've been messed about selling something before and would never do it to anyone else, I've always paid as soon as I've bought something on eBay.
It was an item id looked at a few days ago then closed the app. It wasn't an auction, it was BIN.
I've messaged the seller and explained and said I'm really sorry but have no idea what's happened. They said not to worry and will let the case run it's course.

so they will close the non paying case in 4 days and get their fees back and you will get a non payer strike on your account.

That's fine butterfly. I really have no idea what went on Confused
Ah well. Have been using ebay for years with no issues.

If you go to your Purchase history (option under 'My Ebay' on home page) do you see this item?

It makes no sense that you received no previous messages. Ebay sends out loads of payment reminders in first 48 hours. Have you checked your spam filters or junk email folder?

I can't see someone hacking an account to buy a £10.99 item and then go back in at the right time to delete emails.

I agree - you must have bought it in error - and it will be in your won items. Maybe there is a glitch in the App.

It's a scam. I get these, case opened against me for something I haven't bought. They are phishing for your details if you click through the email.

it isn't a scam if the message is sent to you via ebay. When you log into ebay is the case there in the resolution centre?

I wondered that, too, Amiga. Hope OP has sorted it properly.

The ones I have look like they are from eBay. But they're not as there is nothing in my bought items.

Anyway OP says it was an email, not a direct message from eBay,

Butterflyspring · 12/07/2014 23:35

and op also says it was an item she was viewing in the app - almighty coincidence to get scammed about an item you just happened to be viewing isn't it?

I'm pretty sure you can see the last few items a person has searched for.
