I bought a dress a while ago. It was stated by the seller to be pure silk 3 times. On the heading, description and the extra blurb.

It arrived and it is polyamide and some other synthetic material on the label. Nylon in other words.

I opened a case and asked for a refund and the return cost of p&p from the seller as they obviously gave a false fabric. Before people say it was probably an error, I wonder how many times a pure silk garment is misrepresented as nylon 'in error'?

I got the refund and the original p&p. No return p&p. The seller then contacted me to return the dress. It is ready to go back, but the seller's trying it on is going to cost me and only me isn't it?

I emailed ebay and asked what to do about p&p. They sent something to the effect about sending it by parcelforce.

Just put it in the post without any stamps on and she will have to collect it from the post office and pay the postage if she wants to get it back.

It is usual practice for buyer to return first before getting a refund. Not sure why the seller has already refunded you before receiving the dress back. However, a good seller would refund you the cost of return as they made a mistake when listing. They can do this by sending you a separate paypal payment to your email (they can't refund more than the original payment via paypal/ebay refund) Unfortunately you can't really force them to do this but you can leave feedback and low stars if you are unhappy with the transaction. Message them to say that you feel it would be fair for them to pay for the return, see what they say then just return and leave the stars/feedback. It is in seller's interest to protect their feedback by giving good service. If they don't offer to pay the return just post it back cheapest method but get proof of postage - no point paying for signed/tracked - you already have the refund for the item.
Rather silly of seller to say silk if the label states otherwise - it is possible to make a mistake with a vintage item with no label but it seems clear in this case.

Try calling eBay- sometimes, 'as a goodwill gesture', they send you a prepaid postage label.

ebay gave you a no fault refund? In which case if the seller wants the item back they need to give you the money. And if it was a no fault refund the seller kept the money anyway and you do not have to return it.

The refund was from the seller. I'll contact ebay later with the listing and a photo of the material tag and see if they have anything different to suggest. I wonder what is the cheapest way to send it back with proof of postage if I have to fork out?

I'm really pe'ed off though. It doesn't cost this vendor anything to completely misrepresent the item if the buyer has to foot the bill. I would be the only one out of pocket. No incentive to the seller to be honest.

it will cost £2.98 to send tracked via hermes - ebay won't do anything if you contact them. If the seller wants it back ask them to send you £3 via paypal as a gift payment (no fees) - then you can send it back. There is nothing they can do or report you for so stop worrying. If they don't provide postage then don't send it back.

When I raised a not as described case, I phoned ebay after advice on here, and they sent me a free collect+ label to send the item back.

They made it clear that it was a goodwill gesture; but you've nothing to lose by calling them and asking.
