Ebay naive- will I be refunded...can I remove feedback I submitted?!

I bought an item of clothing on ebay, first time I've bought something.
It didn't fit & really seemed worn out & a bit smelly (yes, I knew it was second hand).

Seller wasn't keen when I asked for refund- although the listing stated 'refund if returned within 14 days'. Then agreed as goodwill gesture.
I returned the goods, heard nothing so I emailed- they said they would refund me once I'd left positive feedback.

So I've left positive feedback but not had a refund yet...have I been done over?! They have the item, my money & I've paid 2 sets of postage!

This has really put me off buying clothes on ebay, not worth the hassle, I rather buy in the shops or charity shops.

Should I contact ebay now- I gave feedback 4 days ago, emailed seller not heard back from them. Regret putting positive feedback!
Especially as I now see they have quite a few negatives in recent weeks...

Hmm, well I def would have refused to leave feedback until refund received. Positive feedback may also indicate to eBay that you were happy with the purchase, which you weren't unless the listing stated " very worn and in need of washing"

I would email seller again. Did you send recorded delivery back to them? Otherwise they can say they didn't receive it. Plus, be aware they are only obliged to pay the item cost back to you- not the postage.

Yes I paid extra to send it recorded/signed for delivery.
Yes I accept that the postage costs are mine but I want to item cost refunded.

Yes I should've refused to leave feedback until they refunded. I'm cross now! This is going to mislead future buyers...can I withdraw my feedback?

so they have blackmailed you into leaving feedback - no you can't change it now sadly.

you can leave follow up to it - and open a not as described case with ebay, give them the tracking and they will refund you.

Oh shit- I really should have paid more attention & contacted ebay or asked on here.

This is v frustrating but it's my fault. I bet the item of clothing goes back up for auction pretty soon!

Right, off to try and dig out the tracking ticket...

they won't ask for the tracking info until you escalate in 8 days time, just get the case opened asap and then when escalated you can give the tracking no and get your money back.

Open a case now. Sometimes it is enough to give the seller the kick up the arse required.

I had a sneaky feeling when I sent the item back so I decided on recorded delivery...then just today I read all the negative feedback left about them!

The seller made a big thing about it being a special gesture to refund me...it was stated clearly on the listing that refund was possible!

Ok I will head over to ebay to open a case. Right I guess done sellers will try their luck to see what they can get away with...lesson learnt!

well a seller cannot refuse a return for a refund so they are hardly doing you a special favour.

I know, exactly...I didn't make a big thing of it & just pointed out to them what it said on their listing.

Feel a proper idiot for leaving positive feedback...

Did you keep copies of the emails you sent and received from them, showing they wanted your positive feedback before returning the item? It would be proof, if needed, that the item wasn't satisfactory and that they'd agreed to refund you.

Yes I've got all the emails in my ebay app account so it's all there if I needed evidence.

I know it's just one seller...I'll definitely use it to buy other items, I just think with clothes it's all a bit of a gamble.

I've had a rubbish experience with a garment I purchased recently. Got a jumper classed as cashmere but was actually 70% other materials. It also had a hole under the arm which was amateurishly sewn (part of hole still open). Cross 'cos I paid a bit for it. I wouldn't have bought it if I had know It was only 1/3 cashmere.

On the other hand, I've had some beauties from ebay. People who honestly describe the garment (that's what you want from something you can't physically inspect) so you know what you're buying.

Today, I received a jacket which cost me 6.50 for the postage. Actual cost to seller for postage was 2.60. It was taped up in black bag and brown paper with lots of parcel tape so can't imaging packaging costing much. However, it was well enveloped and protected in said packaging and the jacket was perfectly and thoroughly described. The jacket is gorgeous and I got it at a fab price. So I'm really happy.

They say to look at the seller's history and their feedback. I hope your situation is resolved by ebay if the seller doesn't keep their word.

Good news- I told the seller that I would be opening a case with ebay and this made them pay up for the refund.
I hadn't actually opened a case but it was enough to get them to refund me over 2 weeks since they'd received the returned item.

Ok I have had my eyes opened sufficiently...looking to buy another item now!
