eBay

Seller sold item I won to someone else

I won an auction for a bag on 21 february. I was the only bidder and won the item at £70 plus £7 postage, which was the starting price. I paid via paypal within a few hours of the auction ending on the 21st. One week later and I haven't received the bag and the listing on eBay states it has not been shipped. So I emailed the seller and asked when she would be posting it. She has today refunded the full amount via PayPal and sent me a message stating:-

"Not sure how you won this item as it was bought by buy it now. Sorry, it is already gone. Here is your refund."

PayPal have put the money on temporary hold until it clears so I haven't actually received the £77 back yet. I'm annoyed with the seller because there wasn't a buy it now option and I was the only bidder so I don't see how she has sold it to someone else. She hadn't listed it twice because I frequently search on eBay for this particular make of bag and would have seen it. Plus, I paid at approximately 6am on 21 feb (the auction ended just after midnight). The payment cleared quickly and I received an email from eBay that day stating that they had told the seller to ship the item. So she kept hold of my money for a week and only refunded me when I chased her for the item.

Is it worth emailing her again and asking for clarification as to what happened or should I just forget it? Also I don't know what to do about feedback. So annoyed, I really wanted the bag!

You aren't going to get the bag so I'd just leave it if I were you. You can leave factual feedback as appropriate I guess.

Something along the lines of Won item and paid immediately. Seller sold item to someone else. Took a week to refund.

Have you looked for other items she's selling, in case she did put the item on eBay twice but mis-typed the name 2nd time or something?

report as non performing seller and leave a big fat neg with low stars - not acceptable at all. You bought the item fair and square - and the rubbish about someone else buying as a buy it now is nonsense and a lie.

NotADragon's feedback response is good, though I'd add Only refunded when challenged.

It looks like someone approached the seller while the item was listed, asked 'will you sell it to me on a buy it now', the seller has said yes, taken money, sent back, and forgotten to cancel the listing. I sometimes get asked this when i am selling. Its not the same as a 'buy it now' button on the listing. (I always say 'no thanks I will let the auction run').

In which case she has broken ebay rules by selling off ebay and avoiding fees so you could report her to ebay.

Agree with others though, you aren't going to get the bag now so I'd just wait till your money clears and forget about it.
