Divorce/separation

I need a GOOD divorce solicitor in Belfast

Last October I began divorce proceedings against my emotionally abusive and controlling stbxh. Anyway, cut a long story short, I still don't even have my Decree Nisi. I've come up against delay after delay caused by a GP who was slow to submit the required medical report for my ds who has minor special needs, the petition not being signed in time, and stbxh's solicitor being slow to submit the paperwork to the Matrimonial Office and therefore missing the deadline to get the Nisi through before the summer recess. Therefore, it will be September at the earliest when I will get a court date.

I feel the local solicitor I chose back in October last year has not been active enough in my opinion of prioritising my case. All of the delays could have been minimised if she had followed up and chased the parties concerned in a more timely manner. She works only a three day week and it is virtually impossible at times to get to speak to her.

So please if anyone can offer some ideas on how to switch solicitors at this stage, and moreover, recommend a really good attentive and proactive solicitor in the Greater Belfast area, I'd be really grateful.

Thanks for your very proactive reply Doook. I wish it was that easy! I just need some advice or just some bloody good legal advice on how to move everything forward a lot quicker than it seems to have been moving in the last year. I realise I am living (stuck) in a conversative and slow moving legal system. It's one that I've been a slave to for almost a year and one that has done little, if not nothing, to help someone in my situation.

Hi mummmsy, Ty for your reply. Can you say how you know she is good or what have you heard about how good she is?

yes, she specialises in family law. A friend of mine is her secretary and Sinead did some work for me post-separation re parental responsibility/custody issues in similar circumstances to your own (abuse etc)

she's very precise, pro-woman etc and works in a timely manner too. Whilst she is difficult to get hold of on the phone (being in court etc), she responds to emails promptly. she takes legal aid clients too if that's relevant

hope she can help you out!

I looked into this recently and I asked friends for a recommendation. I wanted a Rottweiler of a solicitor and I was recommended Karen Fox, I believe she has 2 offices, in Belfast and Lurgan.

Good Luck!

I have heard great reports about Edwards and Co. Solicitors Belfast. A friend of mine used them in the past and they were very supportive to her and her children. www.edwardsandcompany.co.uk/services/13/family-and-matrimonial

Sinead Larkin is who I used and I was very pleased with her and how she deal with my case. She is direct and straight about what can and cant be achieved. Most of all I felt she listened to me and understood where I was coming from. Overall very happy.

If you would like a solicitor who will do her utmost to get you what you want then Sinead Larkin will excel. If you want a solicitor who will do her best for your you and your family then stay away.

Hi Bracken133 I used Sinead Larkin she was excellent. Very direct and assertive but also realistic about what was acheveable. I liked her. She gets good reviews on here and I think they are justified.
