You'll need ID at some point - passport or drivers license might do. This is a legal requirement. Other than that, it is useful to take as much information as you can whenever you have it. If you can provide things like mortgage statements; bank statements for yourself and partner if possible (or at least idea of what funds he has); list of major assets (rough house value if applicable, any savings or belongings, pensions, cars etc); any major debts or outstanding loans or liabilities, including outstanding car loans or HP etc.
Often the first appointment is free of charge/obligation and you can ask anything you like. After the free appointment it's best to have an idea of what you want to get out of each session and only see your solicitor when you have something new to do/share. Don't get tempted to use your solicitor as an agony aunt.
