Where is the best place for afternoon tea in London ? Is it the sort of thing you would do with children ? Im trying to think of something to do for my 40th that ive never done before, but involving the family. Thank you.

I have had afternoon tea at the Savoy, Claridges, Harrods and the Dorchester.
The only one I would be happy to take children to would be Harrods as it has a more relaxed atmosphere. The others are quite strict and I would'nt be able to relax incase the children played up.

Out of the four I have been to, you got more food at the Savoy but Claridges was the most impressive building wise.

How old are the children, Debris?

Claridges is gorgeous, as is the Wolsley. But as Tas1 says, you might not feel comfortable with small kids to be honest. I am going to take a well-behaved ten year old to the Ritz soon but might not chance a smallie.

One other idea would be to go to the newish ice cream parlour in Fortnums and Mason; it is fabby and kids love the sundaes. And it has the glam factor for you.

Thank you, dds are 6 and 3. Yes I was a bit worried that it might be a bit formal for them. I want to be able to relax and enjoy it.

DH took me to the Ritz. There was loads of food - so we had a lunch sitting and we didn't eat again that day. There were twin toddlers there near us but they were in the minority but there was a good mix of bigger groups and couples.

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
